I'd totally be down with Cupcakes. I seem to be one of the only ones to genuinely appreciate it, and I think Kyoga and I could band together for some terrifying atmospherics in a song like that.

I like Cupcakes. Most bronies can't get past the gore though. Any ideas for the Cupcakes song? Older style death metal? Atmospheric djent? Some type genre that dosn't yet exist or cannot easily be classified (I like this idea here)?

I had a good idea, but this would probably not happen until after this album is complete (archive this idea if you like it): A full length album where each song is about an individual fanfiction. However, this idea can wait until we are done with this album (I don't want to overwork myself).

Alright, idea for 'some type of genre that doesn't yet exist or cannot be easily classified' - an atmospheric section with no drums and maybe some guitar pickslides in tandem with distorted whispers and growls for vocals, which then falls off and builds up slowly into a very slow-paced hybrid of djent and dubstep, with pained screams and possibly operatic singing for vocals, then from there a prog-style buildup that switches tempo and time signature multiple times before exploding into an instrumental solo section that is abruptly cut off, and the song ends in some atmospheric noise again, maybe a heart whose beating slows, or just some noise pads or something.

Wow, that's convoluted. Seriously, the fuck did I just type?

I also have a diabolical plan... For at least one keyboard solo, I'm going to use highpassed wubs.

WUB SOLO.

Oh yes, I'll write a 6-minute solo out of pads with 20-second attacks. It'll be like 'If Equestria Burns, Part 2'

That sounds brilliant! Making music super atmospheric is a good way to avoid genre classification, assuming it doesn't get classified as atmospheric (so not too much). For the prog style buildup, I was thinking of getting a clean bass-like tone on my 8 string. The only other guitarist who does that is Tosin Abasi. I would consider using some kind of a diminished tapping pattern on the clean channel. Near the end, I would add distortion and volume on a second guitar (via double tracking). Then it would cut into Misha Mansoor style djent with dubstep wubs instead of a normal bassline.

I have absolutely no idea how a wub solo would sound good. However, I do like drop oriented dubstep, so if you could make a very technical bass drop section that Kyoga and I can play along to, that would be cool. The drop would be the obvious feature there.

I would like to hear a very melodic chorus (Periphery style), but make the song structure awkward so that the chorus doesn't appear until two verses and a bass drop have gone by.

I think that we could make this a long one (at least 8 minute, hopefully 15). I also think that the song should follow the storyline and have creepy, but soft interludes at every point when Rainbow Dash passes out (I think she blacks out twice during the process). Interludes would probably consist of clean channel guitar (with delay and reverb), liquid drum and bass style drum rhythm, and possibly a guitar with very light distortion soloing slowly.

During the "harvest" section, I had some ideas, but you would have to agree on one. First idea: downtempo death metal. Second idea: Grindcore/Goregrind/Extreme Metal. Third idea: Djent style groove breakdown with a tense/nervous feel to it in an odd time signature. Fourth idea: Melodic yet ominous (and tension building) chorus-like thing where some vocals are sung melodically over screaming vocals in the background. Fifth idea: All out shitfest!!!

The song would have at least two guitar solos and one all out progressive solo with every instrument/weird sound effect/synth being used.

Overall, this seems like an experimental genre. Pretty cool. I'll add all of this to the document.

As soon as I've done enough work on my AP English final, I'll try putting together a demo wub solo, just to see if I can do it. This is only an idea, but then there's only one way to test an idea

I can't help but feel this would be 20% more efficient using Skype or something similar.

If you end up discussing something that needs raspy (but still clean) vocals, PM me, because I am far too busy to keep up with the thread efficiently.

I have no hardware equipped for making any sort of guitar-bass-drums, nor am I a good vocalist, but I could write a song for you guys, if you wanted :D

If it's metal and fits the stuff already in the document, then that should be fine. Actually, could you focus on lyrics? I was hoping to write my own guitar riffs and ryhthm stuff with help of other guitarists. Kyoga will focus on solos (because he good at soloing), I'll just make awesome riffs and confusing ryhthm patterns. I'll also do any djent stuff that would require my 8 string guitar.

I'd love to do something for track 7. Just a suggestion: Maybe it should be split up into sections, sorta like the 2112 album, by Rush.
I know there are parts to the 20-40 minute track idea, but I'm not sure if they're going to be in one full song, or individual files.

I like the idea of indexing it, but on an album where there are at least two other 10+ minutes tracks, I'm not sure it'd make sense on an organizational level. Besides, I love single files having epic lengths :D

That's the thing though. No musicians really do epics in 1 file. Here's our chance to go nuts.

This is a skill that we need. I might change a few chords, but I can't seem to come up with a general idea. Just make sure that it would work for the mood of the song.

We actually only need one more track idea before I assume we'll all just start writing whatever we can. So yeah, what's Track Eight gonna be?
