Facebook's IPO

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

telecommunications don't force me to buy a new phone because the old one is an old model, and even if i decide to do so, I can always use my old one

Your analogy fails because facebook doesn't force you to pay anything.

Allow me to restate that 1/8 of the WORLD's population uses facebook.

It would take a massive exodus, and there's really no other service that could cause that.

There would have to be some new service that has some awesome, new, unique features which facebook wouldn't be able to just add or integrate into their service, which I don't really see happening.

YouTube also "forces" people to accept its changes, but I don't see Vimeo getting wildly popular any time soon. Any social networking service will, over time, make changes that the majority of its users don't like. That's just a fact.

What if....
Patches to call of duty games make the game progressively worse and make you buy the next one when it's out?

Good point. *Tips Hat to bartekko*

...I can't really rebut this. Solid argument, but given what Emp said about he sheer number of people using Facebook, my opinion's unchanged.
