I don't know many of you knew this already, but Adam Yauch (MCA of the Beastie Boys) died five days ago. I just found out from a Daily Show rerun of all places.

I'm kinda bummed. I like the Beastie Boys. And just hearing about someone that you would love to meet dying is pretty heartbreaking for me. I'll probably forget soon, but i don't think i'll be able to listen to their music while the memory is still fresh in my mind.

It took me a bit to get into them. I originally had only heard "Sabotage" and "Fight for your right", the latter which they probably wouldn't consider the best of their material (Fight for your right was meant to be a song making fun of the people that are unironic fans of the song). They BB seemed like pretty cool guys and i would have lovedd to meet them, but i doubt that the band will last long without MCA. Though who knows, maybe they'll be like AC/DC or Alice in Chains and keep on in tribute to their bro.

Maybe its the rap element or the fact that they were alternative.

To each their own i guess. RATM was the reason why i wanted an electric over an acoustic. Tom Morello makes his guitar rap.

Yeah, it's pretty depressing news. I'm a huge Beastie Boys fan, so this was kinda devastating for me.

I don't know if you like Coldplay but they did a pretty awesome tribute to MCA and the Beastie Boys at the Hollywood Bowl.

I was a massive Beastie Boys fan so was terrible news. I love Coldplay too but can't say i like that little tribute (quite underwhelming) although it's a nice gesture.

Kyoga we get it, you didn't like the band. No need to reply the same thing 4 times.

"Licensed to Ill" was one of the first CD's I ever bought, and I listened to "Hello Nasty" all throughout 8th grade. I was definitely bummed to hear he passed.

Wonder what Mike D and Ad-rock will do now?

Good question, likely time to retire. They'd need a third person to come in and do mca's parts and that just seems wrong.

Well Beastie Boys (and Faith No More kinda with Epic) really did invent Rap-Rock to a degree. Then again most of what they did WAS hip-hop. They'd occasionally throw in something with some punk roots, played their own instruments in the latter years, and they were dedicated to old skool being a style of hip-hop (and being about fun). They were awesome live too, so glad i got to see them in Red Rocks many a years back.

Full show :D

Can't believe all the star cameos in this last video of theirs.

You lucky son of a bitch. :( i doubt i'll be able to see them live for obvious reasons.

They probably would/could make a tribute concert to MCA like they what Queen did for Freddy Mercury.

One of the things i'm slightly happy about is that they were able to get into the R&R hall of fame before MCA's passing.

Aw man, that's awesome you got to see them live! I jelly. And yeah, that's what I loved about them was that they didn't take themselves too seriously. I loved how they used old school sampling and break beats too, something current hip-hop (excluding underground stuff) has almost completely done away with.

Yeah, that makes sense. They'll probably do some kind of tribute and possibly bring in other artists to help out. But, it won't be same... :(

Yeah they didn't perform at the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame because MCA couldn't make it so i doubt they'll continue with someone else filling in.
