If you want hasbro to know you're a brony and not just their ideal target audience just shoot them a free email and tell them that or do that AND buy one of their products (so they will keep them in stores). Ultimately if you send this guy your money you'll have no idea if he hits the target goal needed for an ad AND that money can disapppear in his wallet. Could easily be just a scam.

That means the amount of parents watching this commercial will be at a maximum of sorts, and if parents were so quick to write angry letters about Derpy, who knows what they'll do when they see this commercial?
Now, I know most parents out there are normal, reasonable people, but it doesn't take a whole lot of people to push an agenda. I'm worried some parents will write letters and emails to Hasbro saying things like "WHY IS YOUR SHOW PROMOTING THESE PEDOPHILES FIX THIS RIGHT NOW!" and Hasbro will be pushed back up to a wall once again. I only fear this time they will start pulling down YouTube videos for copyright and other things to kind of subtly destroy the brony fanbase.
Now, I understand that is a slippery slope mentality and is a logical fallacy (curse you, Communications class), but I still think it's a possibility. I dunno, I'm worried.

Well true, but the whole point of this is to try and prove to the public that bronies aren't all basement-dwelling neckbeards or something.

You can see the script on the page I linked to if you scroll down a bit.
This idea it just..ugh I'm really not sure about it at all. Also, "We've hit our minimum mark, but keep the donations coming! The more money we have the more times we can run the ad!"
Why not just run it once or twice and give the rest to a charity?

Good point. I recall one time when I posted on an MLP-themed picture on facebook my oldest brother commented that he was watching MLP on hub with his three year old when he saw that I commented on it.
I feel that sometimes a lot of bronies get into this mindset that children don't watch this show and it's just for them - that may be a driving factor behind this.
And really, such a grand gesture of thanks really isn't necessary. Sure, MLP is a great show, and is a great example of why the animation industry isn't dead, but it's not as if shows just as good or maybe even better haven't come before, and there will certainly be more after.

The entire thing reeks of ego and a "we're doing this just to show that we can" mindset, when the money could be so much better spent on charity instead. The scary thing is, this project received $8000 dollars within a single day of its inception, which is quite scary. Well, if it must go through, here's to hoping that its good.
As a side note, that dA link just gave me a little more hope in the community; that was a nice way to settle a dispute
