<Original><Semi-pony> Your Face (Flutterstep)

Postby Matthew N. » 08 May 2012 12:12

First of all, I wanted to say hello to quite possibly my newest favourite community. Second of all, this is literally my first little tune with some MLP content.

Now to the part where I talk about my "stuff." I am treating music as a hobby and the fact is that I don't even own any composing hardware - I am running mainly on free software and VSTs. I'm just saying that to avoid some very harsh critique. I know this is not top-notch and I'll probably never be anywhere close to being as awesome as all my fav. brony artists out there (my main inspiration comes from SimGretina and Alex S.), but that's just fine. For me this is fun - especially being in a huge pure-awesome worldwide community of bronies. :)

So once again, hello everypony!

PS My shorter version of the extended one posted above was showcased on EqD. You may already have seen that one.

EDIT: I am wondering if I should not have named it as "Original", as the only thing in here that is not original is Fluttershy's voice. Could someone let me know either here of via PM so I can edit it if need be?

Whoa, this is sick! That's some insane sub bass going on there. It is VERY repetitive. Might I suggest some trance-y synth hooks or vowel basses every once and a while? A cool thing you could do is stop the drums and the sub bass during the vowel parts. It sounds crazy! But I do need to ask a question if I were to critique further: what free VSTs are you using?

I was kinda aiming for some sort of repetitiveness, though I'll see what I can do. Note that this was my first attempt at something even similar to dubstep/downtempo genres - my main domain is progressive.

As far as free VSTs are concerned, they are - of course - the ones that FLS came with. Sytrus is my fav. free one by far - it is really neglected by many but it can really do a lot. Even something as simple as triple oscillator with proper mixing can sound nice (the fact is, the main bass was based on 3xOSC.)

Sorry I haven't commented back, and it's probably too late, but I would reccommend subsonic, along with the rest of the itchy synth vsts.
