<One Night><Non-pony><Unsure of genre><Never completed>

This was a project I worked on awhile ago and it can together pretty fast. Since then I've learned a bit from the community and on my own, but my computer had to be wiped and I no longer have it. Looking back though, I enjoyed this style and was hoping to go back to it.

Anywho,

Any Critiques are welcome (and encouraged). I only as that you keep in mind this was before I took music theory. So I apologize beforehand.

And as a final question, anyone know what genre this is considered?

Thank you in advance!

Alrighty. Sounds like you've kind of got a mix of house and trance in there, although the WIP lacks anything solidifying either genre. Only reason I'm guessing that is to help point you towards what kind of music to analyze, since you said you liked this one.

Your main synth leads don't really have much use without some backing drums, which come in at odd and rare times in the song. Considering it sounds like you're going for some kind of dance genre, it's absolutely vital you keep the beat going. Brief pauses are okay, but the relative lack of drums makes me as the listener lose interest.

Leads without drums don't make very good instruments, IMO. I tend to go with leads for crazy patterns in the main groove of the mix, and pads for the empty space. Pads are usually fine without drums, because they tend to morph and keep the listener interested.

Anyways, that's my critique. Not a bad WIP, and it sucks you lost it during a wipe.

My own recommendation would be not to try and recreate this WIP. Listen to some house and trance music. Analyze it, and then start a new and refreshing project.
