<Remix> Jazz - Remembering This Day Aria, Deceptive Cadence

Postby Yourenigma » 06 May 2012 18:26

Alright then, as I am still new around these parts, I figured I would cut to the chase and upload a little bit of a musical introduction to run alongside my textual introduction elsewhere on the site:

I'll be honest, I have always taken a little bit of umbrage at the way this and many other fandoms throw around the word "remix" willy nilly. It's such a vague term to me, but if you'd like to consider this as such, by all means! In a way, this piece dabbles with deception from numerous angles: harmonic, thematic, etc. Amusingly however, the deceptive cadence itself is never used explicitly. Double deception?!

Two distinct sections to be found here, timestamps outlined below:

Remembering This Day Aria - 0:00 - 1:09
Deceptive Cadence - 1:09 - 3:45

I won't bombard you with anymore niggly details, but do check the video description for more info if you like.

some parts are a little abrupt (the actual Aria) and the sax sounds a bit flat, but overall, quite smooth.

The abrupt shift to the actual chart for the aria was very intentionally so. It's bebop, lol. Hang on tight. The sax is as played by John Coltrane. Rather old recording.

It sounds fantastic!

Shot in the dark: Would you be open to collaboration?

Jazz is all about fusion of different artists' styles, and I think it would be awesome to bring a lot of bronies' individual soloing styles into a single jazz piece.

It's also about feeling the moment which is hard to do when you're not all in the same place. That being said, if someone thinks they can make this work I'll definitely bring my horn to the party.

I assume the sax you use for the custom parts was played on the keyboard... you should see if you can collab with a real sax player! Sadly, I'm not one...

Massive jazz collaboration? Clarinetist right here. :D Unless you're like my band director, and you think that the clarinet isn't 'jazzy' enough. :P

EDIT: Oh yeah, and uh... your song is flipping amazing.

The trumpet (If I hear correctly and it exists) Seems to meld into the sax part a bit too much. Otherwise, FREAKIN' AMAZING JOB, DUDE. Pony jazz is amazing.
