Uploading music to YouTube (Audio over an image). How do?

Postby Expy » 27 Apr 2012 19:33

(Not sure if this is the right forum, feel free to move it if needed).

Okay, so, how do you guys upload your music to YouTube? What programs? I've been using VirtualDub, which was amazing, but then YouTube decided it doesn't like AVI files very much. When I upload them, it pretends they are only half the length they should be, but it keeps playing the other half when it 'finishes'. My videos with this problem appears to have fixed themselves sometime, but it's still an issue. I've spent the last few hours looking for either an alternative or a solution, but had no luck.

So, is there a better program I can use, or is there a way I can make the AVI files work? I have enjoyed VirtualDub, because I can have high quality (1080p) videos while having a really low framerate to save size. Any other programs that can do that well (and not be a pain to try and work through), and export to something other than AVI?

Cheers,

What would be helpful is your operating system.

Ah, oops. Windows 8 Beta is what I'm using. Basically, Windows 7.

You can still use VirtualDub if you convert the AVI afterward, and/or get VirtualDubMod, which is the same thing plus the ability to import and export a few more file formats. I don't recall off the top of my head what new formats it adds, though, aside from MPEG.

As for what I use, I use Adobe Premiere Pro, which is absolute overkill for this kind of a thing, but I have it because I use it for other projects too, so what the heck. If I recall correctly, I usually export as MP4 for YouTube. I also use the open source FFMPEG for conversions. (Site appears to be down at the moment.) It's a command line-only tool, however; there are some other programs with GUIs that use it, like, I think, HandBrake, but I've found them too limited or counter-intuitive, so I just ended up learning how to call it from a command prompt.

I think Windows Movie Maker should do what you need too, have you looked at its export/render options?

I know the site eqbeats now has an option to automatically upload your music to your youtube account. First upload the song to EQBeats, then add a picture to the song andit will be uploaded. The most important part is getting the best audio quility when uploading to youtube and using video editing software (WAV, or any lossless, files or nothing less then 320kbps mp3).

Ah, thanks. I'll see what those are like. I've tried using Windows Movie Maker, it works, but it's pretty horrible. It tends to put a big black border around the image, and just generally looks bad.

Wow, that would be extremely useful if it worked well. I'll have to try that out, that sounds amazing! Thanks!

I just tried it out now with my newsest song and its works very good, much faster then creating your own video and uploading it. It took me about 20 minutes from when I exported the track to when it was on both youtube and eqbeats.

Does it upload in 720p? That would be nice...
