<Remix><Pony> Love Conquers All (Orchestralstep Remix)

Postby Expy » 28 Apr 2012 00:01

Since everyone is remixing Love Is In Bloom and I can't figure out the BPM of it for the life of me (I've never done anything like that before, also I'm a terrible producer), I figured I'd do something different and remix a background piece. It's also a bit of an experiment for me, because I've never tried anything orchestral before. After this I might try a proper orchestral piece, without falling back on my electronic roots.

It was also an experiment in mixing for me, seeing as I feel like I'm not particularly skilled in that area of production. I stuck a whole lot of instruments in and tried to get them to all fit. I think I did alright - it's not perfect, but it sounds ok. Please tell me how I went and how I can improve - criticism is always appreciated. :)

Cheers,

I could like it a little better with a slightly better piano vst as it seems a bit plain (or you could do some more with effects+automation or fluctuate the impact of the key hits). It's a decent track that overall works and has various melodies working together but it's lack some grandiosity to it and subtle touches that can bring it one step further. It does sound ok! But I really do you could make it 20% cooler if you wanted to and if you varied it up a bit more.

Reverbing the piano would probably fix it.

OK, thanks! FL Keys is a little bit annoying, but I haven't been able to find a decent free piano VSTi anywhere... do you know of any?

Hmm, OK. Right now what I feel I need to work on the most is varying my tracks - they're all quite repetitive. I'm not really sure how to make it sound more grandiose, but I guess it'll come with experience... this is my first attempt at anything orchestral-style.

The piano is reverbed... I can't imagine putting a piano in a track without reverb, FL Keys sounds horrible without it. :)

You can always try out piano soundfonts instead of VSTs, and you can always try more reverb. It needs to echo instead of sound like a toy piano. After you get a good sound, you can work on the notes themselves until it is -as Pon-3 stated- 20% cooler.
