Fluttershy "Yay"

Postby Rainbowjack » 20 Apr 2012 21:12

Hey bronies,

I'm doing a remix of 'Avast Fluttershy's Ass' by WoodenToaster (obviously) and I have no idea how to get the "yay" sample sounding like how he did.

Can anypony help?

Thanks!

You need Melodyne or another similar post-processing autotuner. Take Fluttershy's "yay" sample, stick it in there, and then autotune it. Export the sample. Then do the same thing for all the other notes you need to use. Then load all of them into a sampler and you should be set!

Theoretically, you should just be able to use the one sample and use a built-in pitch shifter to get the rest of them, but you don't get nearly as good of a sound as you would have with the autotune.

^ Problem with that is that changing the pitch without changing the speed is /really/ difficult to do, and unless you've been taught the algorithms used to do that, good luck making it sound good. On top of that, you need to autotune it because Fluttershy's "yay" sample changes pitches just like your voice would when you're talking.

EDIT: Also, inb4 "Audacity has a plugin that will do that for you" because it sounds like crap. Professional vocal editing software like Melodyne sounds the best, by far, though FL and Ableton's pitch shifters aren't shabby.

Thirty-day Melodyne trial is free. And I think the newer FL Studio versions come with something similar already installed, though don't quote me on that one.

Alternatively, ask Glaze for the "yay" sample he used (or ask someone to make one for you) and use your DAW's built-in sampler to do the pitch-shifting for you.

I have FL Studio 10 Producer edition but I can't seem to find anything like that, I've asked Glaze but no reply, I'll have to try Melodyne.

Wish me luck :/

I have two pitch perfect samples I did a long time ago if you're interested.

Thanks that'd be much easy to just get samples. But what do you mean by pitch perfect? As in, like Glaze's?

If you listen to the samples unaltered you can hear that the pitch drifts, i.e it's not a perfect note. This will lead to ENORMOUS PROBLEMS if you try to use it in a musical context. The result will be an out of tune DISASTER. So I used Melodyne to flatten out the notes and remove the formants. Giving us the glorious sounds of Flutterbot.

In short: Yes.

Download

In the Zip there are two files with different pitches, both conveniently labeled. However this means that you'll have to tell your sampler what Root note both samples are tuned to, in this case E and F, otherwise the pitches won't correspond to the midi. For example if you set the root of the sample tuned in E to C every note you play will come out 4 semitones higher (C will be E, C# will be F and so on).

For longer sustained notes simply stretch the audio clip.

Have fun! :D
