Yo yo yo yo yo yo. It's dat time again. Time for Balloons.

I'm tempted to call it finished, but there might be a few things some other human opinions could tell me about it before I blast it out of my "done" cannon (that took me weeks to build btw).

So fire away with the criticisms please if you could please!

I take it that was play on Pendulum's "Salt in the Wounds"? Both the title and the track have similarities, I would say. I'm not a terribly experienced musician, but here's my input:

One thing that stuck out to me was the snare. It sounds a little out-of-place, too stiff or something.

To me, the 45 second intro seems a bit long. Maybe not, though.

It might be my speakers, but the whole sound of the track sounds "flat". I'm not sure how to remedy that, though.

Maybe add a beatdown/breakdown section to break the repetitiveness of the track.

Sounds real nice, otherwise. I'm liking the drum-and-bass style.

Actually, it's more based off of Pendulum's Blood Sugar. I emulated that song's structure very closely. But that's a good observation there.

I've heard a claim like this once before actually, but I still don't know what I should do to remedy this whatever it is. Like, what kind of snare should I be going for then?

I also noticed that the song sounds flat on my speakers. Not the case with my headphones, but I'll try what I can.

I've already started working on that. Not to worry.

There's a few things I've already changed since I put this up, but it's still a wip. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah. I've not heard that one; I only have the Immersion album. Off to YouTube!

Hmm. Something with more punch to it. Maybe like snare 27 on AIR Killer Dance Pack? Free download from the producers themselves. I've found many useful samples in this pack.

Awesome. That's just what it needs to bring this track together.

Heh. Hold Your Colour is really their best album. My personal favorite is "Girl in the Fire".

I think you may have emulated a bit more than the structure... *cough*bassline*cough* Not that I'm complaining, I love Blood Sugar...

Anyway, I like the melody, but since this is Balloon Party, I might suggest looking for a more aggressive set of synths for your lead. Just that could make the track a lot harder. Also, maybe dirty up that bass a bit. Still, it's a very nice bit of D&B, and I look forward to hearing the finished version on the album.

ho...

I do have massive, so I guess I could use that for the main synth, but it's so floosh flosh confusing and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Also, how does one go about "dirtying" a bass? I've never actually done anything of this caliber before, so I'm a bit in the dark here.

Well, you might use Sausage Fattener, or you could just use effects within Massive like tube distortion, wavetable shaping, and the modulation oscillator. The basic square-saw waveform can actually be taken very far with filters and inserts. But to be honest, I haven't actually made many sounds from scratch, let alone a good, dirty bass. So maybe Youtube it if my advice is as woefully unhelpful as I suspect.

After trudging through an amount of schoolwork that would make any lesser man weep, I have a new version up!

My only suggestion: turn up the bass brah! But seriously, some major sub bassage could do so much for this track. *Cough*subsonicvst*cough*
