how to do a glitch voice?

Postby itroitnyah » 07 Apr 2012 07:19

I think I know how, but I'm not entirely sure, so I'm just checking

You just remove the vowels in the software, right? or is there more to it then that?

Ummm glitching something is not really a straight forward process, there's many, many ways to go about doing them - glitch is a really experiment friendly genre.

Though you haven't really explained what you're actually looking for
you mean like PPS's music?

If that's the case honestly you want to go for vowels more then the beginnings and endings of words. Just take a melody accapella and chop out the long syllables, the like "oooh" "Aah" eee" 's and experiment with different configurations and patterns of ordering them - since they're already in key it's fairly hard to come up with something that's out of tune (unless you happen to grab a grace note or the like, putting things from other parts of the progression in other places, etc.).

Also it helps to grab out important parts of the vocals to ornament the melody, like short phrases to give the sound a sense of unity per say (it sounds rather odd for the entire song to just be stuttered syllables).

I'm sorta looking for something like what AlexS does with:

It's pretty much the same method, just a little different work on the intonations and the like.

There's only really 2 major differences in their styles when it comes to vocal stutters:
-Alex often has his vocal chops jump up and down more intensely, PPS keeps them closer together - the result is a bit "glitchier" per say sound. Also note the control on the duration of the samples, you can have them lead right into each other or you can put more separation in between each other and cut out smaller chunks, the latter resulting in a more spacey and disjointed sound, IE glitchier.

-Alex melodyne's his vocals, IE autotune - this allows him to play with the tonality all he likes of the notes to jam them into different melodies they wouldn't fit earlier, note at the "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ah ah ah ah" in that song he melodynes the sound to pitch shift it in an upwards slide. You can do this with some effectiveness with most samplers but something like Melodyne will sound more natural.

This ^. Also, don't be afraid to use multiple tracks for chopping the vocals. It can get pretty cluttered if you have all of your choppy bits all on one track.

mmm... organization

I know nothing.

None-the-less I just cut audio clips up with Audacity into short clips, save them, and then add them into my program as a sample. Put them in rythm patterns or whatever.

Hope that makes a little sense. Just the way I do it. I have no idea how to really do it.

Make sure you don't declick the vocals if you splice it similar to AlexS's song. You want' that choppy/clicky sound.

You can also experiment with d_blue Glitch for weird effects you can apply to a vocal track.
