Old Style Dubstep

Postby Two-Twelve » 04 Apr 2012 18:04

Anyone got any tips on producing some sub heavy, UK style Dubstep like this:

I want my drums and bass to sound like they do at 1:50 and onwards in the above track.

The drums are just samples, they sound like real recorded drum kits instead of the heaviely processed ones you hear in modern electro/ brostep. The bass I dont know exactly but there is a lot of sine bass in it and maybe a little square or saw to give it more shape and tone. It has a bit of a release (or porta) so the notes blend together. It has a bit of an attack to it, also its slightly sidechained to a ghost tick that plays on the kick and some of the hats.

Thats all I got and should be a place to start at least.

Some more bass tips, if you really want that speaker rumbling bass
Get a standard sine wave, then you want to compress it (I use sausage fattener and just mess with the settings) The you want to add some Valve distortion, this gives the sine a few more "tones" (it wont sound like a sub at this point, dont worry) then compress it again, then you want to low pass it while giving it a small boost around 50hz
Also, all of what the4thimpulse said to get that "flow"
