FL studio beginner

Postby Pitch » 28 Mar 2012 06:10

OK! I convinced myself after months of thinking if I should enrol myself in creating some music as a hobby.

I recently got FL studio, I've been trying to get the knicks and knacks and basics of it, I'd say I'm off to a good start. I want to try and figure out most to all the features of it before I even try to make a crappy song of something, because as usual every first product of mine always tends to be downright awful. Anyways, bottom line is: I'm trying out FL studio and I want some informative tutorials to get me started, can anybody provide me with that? Or, if there's anybody familiar with FL studio can I turn to you when I have questions?

Pretty Please?

The good thing about FL Studio is that it's pretty easy to learn (at least in my experience), and is still a fantastic DAW. Tutorials are good, but to be quite honest I'd say that messing around is the best way to learn because it's hands on experience.
As well, feel free to PM me or add me on Skype, I've been using FL Studio for about a year now (I've actually used it off and on for about 5 years, I'd make simple little beats and stuff. I really started using it to make music about a year ago), so I think I could help.

I've been using FL for about a month. Obviously that means I'm not very experienced, but if you feel like you want to talk to another newbie, feel free to PM me here or on skype.

In terms of tutorials, these have been insanely helpful. This one is the very first, I'd watch through the whole series if you have time (they're really long, about 30-45 minutes each). Also definitely watch his three-part series on music theory.

I've also been using FL for about a month, and as stated by the people above I would be more than willing to answer any questions.

The tutorial series that legion posted is the exact same one I watched so I would highly recommend it to, it covers A LOT in quite a bit of detail so its a great place to get started.

For the more basic stuff, it doesn't get any better than reading the manual, just for laying down the basics of what everything does. The imageline channel on Youtube has some really useful overviews of plugins in FL Studio, and tutorials on how to make things. Once you figure out where everything is, and more or less what the things you have do, you can apply what you see in pretty much any tutorial on any DAW on FL Studio.

I guess I can more or less stumble around FL Studio, but I'll still be happy to help you out with any issues you can to the best of my abilities. Feel free to hit me up by PM, or skype (thesunandtherainfall). c:

Oh, I almost forgot: another thing that's always important to keep in mind is to FINISH SONGS. Seriously. My musical capability has gone up way faster since I started making full songs instead of small patterns and loops. Not that you shouldn't make those too, but... do I really need to get that Ira Glass copypasta in here?
