I'm Having A Conflict

Postby Triscy » 26 Mar 2012 13:01

Hiya, guys. I'm a new member here; this is my first post. I wanted to come to you guys, all of whom I have no doubt know music, and ask you for some help with a conflict I'm having.

This is a song I've done, using FL Studio. I like it, but I don't feel I've reached a good enough point yet. I get my inspiration from artists like General Mumble, Daft Punk, Skrillex, Feed Me, and Caravan Palace. I don't want to work that much with instrumental-only songs. I want lyrics and voices in my works; I've always been a fan of vocal accompaniment in electronic works.

This is where my conflict comes in. I'm not confident enough in my work to ask a vocalist to help me and I'm not confident enough in my voice to sing for my own work. But I have a feeling that I won't be able to truly get to the point that I want to be if I don't start working with vocals. I would just grab some voice clips and start messing with them, but I'm not fond of the idea due to a habit of wanting my work to be 100% original content made for the project. I'm probably not going to be the type who does remixes of other people's songs(excluding pony songs, possibly).

Pretty much my question is what advice do you have for helping me improve? Do you think I should try and find someone willing to work with me regardless of my current level, or should I keep working without vocals until I'm confident?

Also, feel free to critique that song posted earlier as well.

Learning how to add vocals to a song is a very hard thing at first. You should work a few months on instrumentals before trying to incorporate vocals into your songs. You'll need to know the key of a song, You'll have to write in the key, compose along chords, know how to not make leads and vocals clash, and a lot more waht is needed to make everything sound good. When you feel confident enough, try remixing a few vocal songs.

Or you can just be gutsy and ask someone to supply vocals. If there's a singer you really like and you think their style would be great for your song, just go ahead and ask them! Otherwise, there are plenty of "Looking for vocalists!" threads here, or you could work on your own vocals. Sing how you want it to sound, ask for critique, make it better, etc.
