<Remix>? Delusionshy (first pony related song)

Postby silverblaze » 15 Mar 2012 07:41

Hi everypony!

This is my first ever attempt at using vocal in a song as well as the first time I've ever made a "hard" techno song.

Any critique is appreciated! :D

hmm kind of a twisted chiptune feel. i like the concept although the samples aren't that clean. where did you get them (there are clean samples from the eps w/o background music if you're having to eq them out on your own)? its a little basic sounding and that distorted synth could some eq'ing. other then that its pretty decent. :)

nice to meet you!

Thanks!
Yeah I had to rip the samples myself since I had not found the archive of eps w/o bg music. (took me a while to find it lol) I had tried to get a kind of vocoder effect on the vocals, but I have no idea how to do it.

I plan to remaster this later on, so I'll see what I can do with the synth.

Thanks again! :D

Extra note: The whole song was created using only .wav sound files. I couldn't find a .VST synth that gave me the sound I was looking for. any suggestions for a good synth to use in this?

What sort of sound were you looking for? Just generically, I'd recommend checking out Native Instruments "Massive."

Also, it sounds cool, I like how everything fits together and the theme is strong, too. Nicely done!

Thanks, I'll have a look into that "Massive" instrument.

And thanks! I took my time creating this one(about a 1-1/2 days) since it was my first time using any kind of vocals in a song.

Massive and Nexus are both awesome. Get some presets for Massive as its daunting w/o.

+1 for Nexus. Incredible ROM-based softsynth, and extremely user friendly. The only problem with it is that it's not all that customizable, and it can get expensive if you start buying extensions.

If you're up for a challenge, I'd also recommend NI FM8, as you can get some great sounds from it (it's a bit tricky to learn IMO. The matrixes confuse the hell out of me.) An easier [but still fantastic sounding] alternative is Ableton Operator.

As for the track, I loved it. The melodies flowed together nicely and the distortion sounded great. The outro didn't sit that well with me, though. Perhaps a tad sudden?

Yeah, the outro is the big thing about this song that I don't like. I've never really been all that great with ending a song, since I've mostly done songs that loop. So this song was one of my biggest learning experiences.

Cool! I'm always up for a challenge, and I love messing with matrix settings, so I'll give those a go and see what I can do. :b
