[Non-pony Original] Some pretty cool things 'n' stuffs

First of all, hello, fellow pony fans! I am James Paddock - a brony from England who recently emmigrated to the west coast of Australia. So, g'day and good morrow!

I'm also a musician - with "Jimmy" being my artist alias.

Recently I've been "getting my pony on" during my creative periods. I've been trying to unleash my artistic, erm... "ability", if you can call it that, which has laid dormant for about 7+ years thanks to my prolonged focus on my music composition (and also because the majority of my art course consisted of more Google image searching than actual art). I've also got a comedy fan-fiction in progress - I love me a bit of writing, though running dry on ideas has been my biggest enemy thus far.

I do have a little musical pony-oriented something-or-other in the works, but I have yet to get it into a presentable state. It's pretty Twilightlicious, though. ;)

For now, have these two non-pony-oriented tracks that I wrote with Reason.

This is something I wrote for my Music Technology A2 course. Took me ages, but it netted me a B, so it wasn't a complete smegging waste of time. :P

Something much more recent which sees me using automation a lot more than usual.

I've got a crapton of stuff here as well if you feel like checking it out. Umm... if it's no problem. *shy squeak*

And for a quick rundown on myactualdangself, I'm a sucker for loud/progressive stuff: my favourite artists include Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Pendulum/Knife Party, and, well, most of the drum 'n' bass/dubstep artists out there. Much wub for the WUBs.

More about me here.

Cheers! :D

Wow, interesting stuff. You really seem to know what you're doing based off these two. Enough that I won't have much to write here...

Economy Of Truth: This is really interesting, I got hooked into it just with trying to comprehend the message, and while it could be one thing, it could also be another, and there quite a bit of room for interpretation. The sample usage is pretty great, although some of the repeated sections of them got a bit annoying like at 1:52. Overall, this is really great, though, there's a lot of subtlety to it that if I wasn't listening specifically to the music, I might miss, but it really adds a lot to the whole track. The ending wasn't powerful enough, though!

Time Dilation: Dude... This is so cool... Like... Hold on, I'm trying to think how I can translate this into words. kjfhsglkasdhgjldkhjdlskhgjl! There we go, that worked. Seriously, this has such an amazing feeling to it. One of the things it made me think of was Rainbow Road from Mario Kart... But I went from that to just a general sense (at 1:25, when the piano came in) of flying through space and joyously exploring the universe. There's so much happy to the song, it's great!!

So, um.. Yeah. Keep up the awesome!

Thanks, my fellow brony! Sorry for the late reply - have had internet troubles lately. :x

Economy of Truth is basically an homage to how politicians are "economical" with the truth. The samples are of various US presidents doing that thing that they do is not quite lying but definitely isn't telling the absolute truth either. That was part of the syllabus and it specified that I had use samples of political speeches - as was limiting the track to exactly 3:00 in length which might explain the lackluster ending. Good to hear it resonated with you on some level, though. :D

Really glad you liked Time Dilation. I haven't really done anything like it, ever... or since. Should definitely try and do something like it again because it was hella fun to write (the mixdown was a bit of a nightmare, though, and it took me forever to get that high-pass effect on the drums at the beginning to sound passable). Oh well! It definitely has a magic to it that I should expand upon.

Thanks a bunch-load-ton! :D

If you're interested, a bunch more stuff got uploaded to my channel yesterday. This stuff is a bit different, though - the sounds are pretty basic because I just used an MP3 converter on a bunch of custom MIDIs, so it might not seem as shiny and polished as the two Reason tracks up there. Still, I think it all holds together.

Like I said, I'm a big progressive metal fan... so strap yourself in for some wacky-arse time signatures such as 5/4, 12/8, and even 15/4. :o

New song!

Read the video description for some interesting stuff. :P

Please forgive the drums - like on a lot of my tracks, it's hard to make them sound good, even if I can come up with a pattern that's really cool. I should really mess around with Reason a bit more and actually synthesize some genuinely good drum sounds, though I still have a lot to learn about that side of song production.
