This is a, not so short, sample of what will likely be my first pony related song YAY!

The drums are a placeholder at the moment, nothing is mixed down or eq'd fully and the vocoding is weak at the moment (if any way has tips on vocoding I would be glad to hear them). But please tell me what you like and dont like, be as critical as you want.

Its progressive house as thats what I'm best at, enjoy.

You know the feeling when you can't sleep and have too much on your, kind of like the CMCs in "Stare Master", thats what I am going for in this song.

You have a nice beat. I would consider putting more bass in the clap and kick, it sounds a little tinny right now. Also it's a tad repetitive, even for house. So I'd consider changing it up with glitches or something else of the sort. Otherwise its coming along well :D

It sounds pretty solid for a foundation. It does get sounding kind of repetitive, but I really love what you did at 2:11 and out. I feel like it should get to that part a little sooner. But the biggest thing that sounds repetitive is the bass in the earlier part. It just makes things kinda feel boring after awhile. Also in the last section, the long held ambient instrument, to me it seems like it should change notes to reflect the chords as opposed to holding just the one note that entire time.

As for the idea behind it, I get what you're going for, but to me when I have too much on my mind, things aren't "structured" like they sound in this song, it's more scattered and confused feeling, slowly turning into organization when I finally get stuff sorted out and can (if ever) get to sleep. Though if it's just more for the "insomnia" aspect, it would accomplish that, as it's kinda droning feeling (not in a bad way) that insomnia does to you, where everything around you just begins to blur and you get that mlllarrrgggrhhh feeling. The vocoding sounds fine to me, though I've never really done anything with it, so I wouldn't be the best source there.

It has a great foundation already, maybe vary the bass up a bit/look for ways to make it less repetitive. Granted, I know it's progressive house and a bit of repetition does come with that, but even something as varying/adding more sounds in will help reduce the repetitive feel, I think. I'm excited to hear where you go with it!

Thanks for the feedback, I have worked on the track a bunch today with your advise in mind.
Here is an updated version,

http://soundcloud.com/the4thimpulse/insomnia

I shortend the intro and added some stuff at the end that I think you will like :D
I completely changed the drums, gave the bassline lees emphasis and changed the chords and main pluck a bit (at one part I have 8 note chords, it awesome)

What do you think of these changes?

Cool! It has a lot more of a push/pull effect, with the upbeat chords and the droning bass (the filter is cool adds coolness to it). I feel a lot more of the theme now and OH MAN AWESOME JUST GOT TO 2:26 SWEET. That's really cool, I love that a lot. That delayed/double kick or whatever in there really drives it on and makes it really interesting. I really like it!! Am I hearing that held synth note around 2:00 panning from back and forth? I don't know if that's a change or not, but that gives a really neat effect. Seriously, the stuff at the end is great -- I'm excited for more!

Awesome, this whole track was made by accident actually, from the chords to the crazy time signiture change. I have had quite a bit of fun making it :D

The sound at 2:00 is my own sampling invention (I am still perfecting it), one that I have not shared with anyone, I can tell you that the sound you hear is not a synth. I did change it from last time.

More will come, I have no idea where this track is going but I cant wait to find out.

Insomnia?
...
Are you even kidding me?

But okay, I'd love to hear what it sounds like.
This is a vintage signature. No, really!

I have updated it and added some new stuff at the end going with the crazy insomnia theme, tell what you think and know I am still working on it. The transitions at the end aren't perfect but work for now.
