Interestingly enough, I'd never heard of EQ until I found MLR

North Kozar wrote:Pinkie's Party Of One: Interesting song, while I felt it got kinda repetitive, I definitely could feel the theme in it. Odd effect of the rain at the end. To me the rain makes me think of loneliness. Maybe I've just lived a sad childhood and didn't play in the rain enough, though. It's pretty creative and the only thing I notice is that the high hats are a little loud, though that could just be me. I liked the fade into the end rain, though, that was neat.
Funny story about that rain. In the original version of the song that wasn't there. When a friend of mine made a visualizer for it, there were some cool rain effects near the end, so I ended up adding the rain sample to compliment them. I rather liked the way it sounded, so I kept it.
North Kozar wrote:IDK A Spring Day: (it rhymed.....) This one is neat, I like the atmosphere to it. Again, fits well with the theme/idea and it's presented really well. I absolutely LOVE the vibraphone/whatever the mallet instrument is. It sounds so great.
It's a kalimba, AKA "thumb piano". Quite an interesting instrument. I used it to represent Angel.
North Kozar wrote:The high hats/cymbal hits in some places feel a bit loud in comparison to the calming nature of the rest of the piece. It's a nice calming and relaxing song to listen to. And the ending is very cute (only thing there is it got a little cut off before the pads faded out completely in the end, but that could just be youtube/whatever).
That reverb lasts a ridiculously long time, although, now that I think about it, there were quite a few ways I could have shortened it.
North Kozar wrote:Brony Ballad: I don't know why you aren't satisfied with it. This is superb!
It's horribly balanced and the transitions are just... off. Thank you, though.
North Kozar wrote:Granted I don't think the beginning parts quite "accurately" reflect the 4chan part (from what I've read/heard, I was never there), but that doesn't really matter at all.
Aha, that's a good point. I didn't think about that. It's about bronies, though, not 4chan. Think of it as the light at the end of the tunnel. Or something.
North Kozar wrote:The whole song has a supreme power to it that drives it forward and at 1:28 when everything comes in it's so glorious!! The only thing that really detracts from the song is the high hat/cymbal hit (whichever it is) because it's kinda too loud/unnecessary and takes away from the epic of the strings.
I'd actually noticed that, but somehow the first half of the song (the two halves were saved separately for a number of reasons) reverted to an earlier version - a MUCH earlier version. I should have saved backups. Lesson learned. Dear Princess Celestia...
North Kozar wrote:It's great how it kinda lulls in the middle for awhile and then comes back with the marching band quality at 3:14. It makes me think of a "ok, time to get organize" or "Let's DO THIS" type mentality and it just explodes into coolness after that.
I absolutely hate that middle part, haha. That "can-do" attitude is pretty much exactly what I had in mind.
North Kozar wrote:While I don't particularly care for the guitar being the first thing heard at that transition, I become ok with the guitar beyond that point (as like a driving backing sort of thing).
Transitions. They hate me.
North Kozar wrote:And 4:24 on out is really cool too. It's very well thought out, has a clear idea and flow to it. And a powerful ending (albeit with a similar cut off problem at the end). Well done!
Thank you! I actually didn't notice the cutoff issue until you pointed it out.
North Kozar wrote:I really like what I hear. I don't have much else to say at this point, besides I want to hear more from you!
Thanks again! Means a lot that you took the time to type out such a detailed critique. I really appreciate it.
