<Original> [First song] Instrumental Trixie's Exile

Postby BronyTuber » 12 Mar 2012 14:06

Hey everyone first let me say I'm new to the site and well frankly making music in general but I've been trying really hard to teach myself how to work with my program (FL Studio 10) and make something that doesn't sound completely awful.

I've never really cared about music too much until I started getting involved in the pony community and heard that amazing artists here, you guys are what inspired me to work on this and finally feel like I'm doing something productive. For that I thank each and every one of you.

So this is the first some I've made, Its probably nothing special but any criticism, feedback or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I called it Trixie's exile, although besides the title there's nothing in it that directly relates it FiM but the inspiration for the song came from the show.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and maybe listen to my song!

Wow. Right off the bat, I was grabbed by the song. It has a very powerful opening that pulled me right in. It has a pretty good level of emotion behind it and it made me wonder what happened to Trixie when she was run out of Ponyville. I don't even notice any errors in the construction of the song at all.

However it feels like it's lacking "something" that will push it over the edge from having a "good level of emotion" to being filled with power and emotion. It's almost there. I'm thinking it could use lyrics or some sort of overlaid melody... Not really sure, though. I would recommend not shelving this song, though, it has potential! And this is the first song you've made?? Wow, that's all the more impressive. The transitions in the song are quite well done, and it has a powerful intro. What is lacks is a powerful ending at the moment, but I imagine how it ends would depend on what you end up doing with the song. Know that if you ever need help with using FL, there's lots of people here who do (I don't, personally) but they'd all be more than willing to help and there's lots of helpful information in the Technique subforum. And I'm certainly excited to hear more work from you, keep at it!

Originally I had written it with lyrics in mind for it and I did work with a pretty good vocalist I know to accomplish this but I wasn't quite happy with how that turned out. The ending is definitely something I've been having problems with, everything I try just doesn't feel right. I'm very grateful for the advise and kind words, although I'm taking a break from it to try and learn more about certain synths and getting away from using presets, I definitely plan on going back to try and fill it out!

Oh and I should note I've been in the technique subforum every day since I started. I've been reading anything and everything in there and I keep a notepad with me that I write down thing I want to try and learn about each day. Hardest part has been not giving up, but I understand that's a problem that everyone goes through and I'm trying my hardest to muscle through it.

First off, this is very gripping and you can feel easily feel the emotion behind it. I like it, its not too simple, nor a clusterfuck (like my 1st songs ugh -.-). However, i feel as if it is missing something, i cant grasp what, but it just is, one more thing, the bass could be lowerd about, it kinda drowns out everything else on my subwoofer. Other then that, good job! Keep on trying you will get better :). Oh and making notes is an excellent idea, your doing just what i did, makes notes and study everyday, it will pay off, i hope to hear more music from you in the future!

Haha I've had a huge issue with the bass throughout the entire process of making this, its always either too low or too high I can't seem to find the perfect median I'm looking for, but I'll definitely work on the bass again. Probably end up taking another look at the Parametric EQ I have on it.
