Should our votes be based on the track in general, or just the rapping aspects of it? Production is half the song, but if we're making this a battle of sorts, a hot beat and whatever shouldn't matter.

You can add beats and effects, and that would help to enhance the track, but the lyrics themselves should be able to stand on their own two feet and sound good even if the backing were removed.

Also, as of next round, the time limit is being altered to "30-90 seconds". I saw how everypony found it hard to fit their track under a minute (even me), so this should make things somewhat easier for everypony. I didn't want it to short, because people would send dodgy entries, or too long, so a select few would own with full-length songs and newbies would become intimidated and not even want to try. Hopefully this is a better length of time.

Oho.

I like this. I like this a lot. In fact I went and registered just to reply to this. Sadly, It's a bit too close to the deadline for me to throw anything legible together for this round. I looked through the submissions though, and you guys have some really killer stuff. Keep up the good work.

P.S.: F3nning have my fillies.

All of these can be found OVER HERE now, thanks to the good guys at Eqbeats.

Actually, only submissions can be found there. That link doesn't tell me how to submit or how to vote (Which is fine, I s'pose, my entry lost). What is it I'm missing?

To vote: click the little star next to each submission

To submit: upload your song to your account on EQbeats (make one if you don't have one). Then go to the contest page (make sure it's the page for that month's competition), and click submit where it says submit. Then...profit??

Keep in mind, you cannot submit if it is past the submission period. You MUST have your entry submitted by the 15 of the month (give or take a few hours; leniency for those in different time zones). Also keep in mind, you cannot vote if it is before the voting period. You must make your vote between the 15th and the 2nd to last day of the month.

Have fun, and remember, don't vote for yourself! (cause, like, seriously, like, wow, who does that? OMG!)

Does anyseapony else think it's a little weird that it's April's voting phase even though it's the Eleventh of the month, not the fifteenth?

A few people were confused, so just so everyone knows:

The rounds are not shorter, but there are two rounds running simultaneously (A and B). In the same way that the voting period for a toastbeard round is in the next one's submission period, Winter Rap Off's two rounds do this. See the dates subsection of the original post if you are still confused.

Hope that clears things up.

okay.. so basically, it's now "make TWO raps in 15 days" and "sit around and wait for the next 15 days to pass."

Right?
Pardon me, but wouldn't it be... I don't know, more fun, to stagger it? Round A is days 1-15, judging 16-30, and Round B is 16-30, judging 1-15 of the next month?

That's not my point. What I'm saying is, We go for 15 days, and then we have this BIIIIG LOOOONG DRYYYY SPEEEELLLL.

And making two songs in the first 15 days of the month isn't going to change that, because we still have the other half of the month full of NOTHIIIINNNNG.
Get it?

Let me try this:

old way
1-15: make song hurry hurry
16-30: BOOOOOOOORRRRREEEEED. When is the next one? Can we start yet!?

new way
1-15: make TWO songs hurry hurry
16-30 BOOOOOOOORRRRREEEEED. Can I have the topic already? I need to get a head start to make TWO songs in 15 days.

I'm not sure why there are suddenly going to be simultaneous rounds (we don't have that many people participating), but I see a problem and a really EASY solution that could be implemented with this new addition, and I am quite a bit torqued that instead of making the problem better, we're using it to make the problem worse.

Okay, firstly:

new way
1-15: make one songs hurry hurry. Is anypony voting on my tracks from the last round?
16-30 make one songs hurry hurry. Is anypony voting on my tracks from the last round?

So...
Marshmelon wrote:wouldn't it be... I don't know, more fun, to stagger it? Round A is days 1-15, judging 16-30, and Round B is 16-30, judging 1-15 of the next month?

that's exactly what I did. Sorry that my wording was unclear.

And secondly:

new new way
1-15 BOOOOOOOORRRRREEEEED. Can I have the topic already?
16-30 BOOOOOOOORRRRREEEEED. Can I have the topic already?
...because people lost interest.
Round 1: 8 entries
2: 6
3: 4
4: 2
5: 1
6: 0 :(
I'm putting the entire thing on hiatus for a couple months, and restart it. Hopefully, more people will be willing to take part. If, after that, it still doesn't function, I might have to abandon the contest altogether. :(
