Complextro and dubstep

Postby the4thImpulse » 26 Feb 2012 13:45

I am looking for some workflow help when it comes to make the many sounds in a complextro or dubstep bassline.

How do you go about making all the sounds you use in a track like that, I figure just recording some synth into audio for an half an hour could be a good place to start, or do you just use mainly other peoples samples?

I generally just start with a chord progression and a general vibe in my hand. I make up a random melody in my head, or bang on my keyboard for a while until I have a melody, and then divide the notes in said melody among different instruments. I'll usually use several instances of various synths with a different sound in each during a section, so it becomes a clusterfuck of VSTs. I know this is probably not of much help, but you're going to want to set a side a few hours when making complextro sections because you want to be really anal about all the different sounds and arrangements you're going to have to lay down.

What I was saying, that you only need about 8 synth patches, and then go crazy with them, so you can get two or three different sounds out of each
