Yet another newbie!

Postby Sarphog » 13 Feb 2012 14:47

With only a few posts, I still consider myself as a super newbie, on the forums and especially as a musician. I've never really played any instruments, nor do I have alot of knowledge about music itself, but I figured I should give DJ'ing a go, considering I listen to music 15+ hours a day (Always considered that alot more than average, and I suppose it gives me somewhat of an advantage, picking up a few hints, etc. from the countless artists I listen to).

Anyway, I have been working on something, and I've wanted to hear some opinions, and of course how to imrpove and actually make it into a song instead of.. whatever you can call it, lol.
It's really, REALLY short though.. Takes me too long to do this atm :\

And two last things.. I figured this would be the right place to post this, and I'm having major problems with the ending.. Recreated it atleast 5 times now

Well, you've definitely got an idea you can build upon in your hands. Since it's so raw at this point it could go a million different directions, but it sounds solid enough. Really, at this point you should try to find something to carry the song, be it that bass line you have going on right now, or a synth melody later on or something, and build around that. Mess around with instruments to see what fits the vibe of the thing you're building your song around. Right now, for example, my impression this song could go in a very sci fi spacey direction, so it could benefit from a bunch of warbly, floaty pads. Those high synths you have there are a good start as well. c:

By the way, I think this thread might have been better suited for the Music section of the board, or even the WIP thread. c:

I was.. Well,.. Uhm.. On second thoughts, I don't really know why I posted this here. I suppose I saw some other similar posts, and copied them.. A little.. While presenting something I made.

Oh, and thanks for the tips :>
