Official Discussion Thread (Ghost Edit)

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Are you guys trying to get your tracks on there? Submitting them?

I know their process has been more fractured and uneven since their musician pre-listeners were "let go" of 4 months ago. But they still have people doing the job (the fimfiction readers are filling in i guess??) and you still have motd to shoot for. Make an effort at least as its for your own benefit to get your music heard.

I agree with Freewave. I always submit my stuff, in an attempt to get featured. So far, every song but one, has made it to MotD. Still dreaming of that elusive spotlight post, but I guess I'll never make it there. They don't seem too keen on aggressive music on that site :P

Just a quick question, how does one get into the featured heading on the home page of EQBeats?

I don't know if there's any rhyme or reason to it. Likely they may listen to some of the tracks iguess and feature their favorites although the most recent posted will always breifly stay there. I don't THINK they do it by stats or scripts as far as i know.

MOTD isnt as cursed as it could be but you can get different results from name recognition. If you're a regular there then you'll get motd regulars checking your track out. If you're a newb or have a bad thumbnail they just might skip you from the batch. It's a WHOLE lot better then not getting on there at all. It's a massive difference in views then doing it by yourself.

I FINALLY got 2 back to back spotlights a few months ago, one for my everfree track with clavi and then other for the Hearts as Strong as Horses. The first one got maybe a slight boost above a typical motd but by subscription rate actually FELL a little   The second track did about double that, so right track at the right time. It all bit of a crapshoot. My last track finally got thrown in the very last of 3 consecutive motd as the last track and with the genre misspelled. That felt like being in the dumpster at the time but certain tracks don't resonate quite like how you want them and that's just part of how it is making stuff. They won't all be winners. Its the nice comments that really matter the most anyway.

Well my remix contest thing didn't really turn into much of anything sadly. Just too few people actually making a track. Hope that doesn't happen to the others.

Sorry about that, actually. Things just kept happening and other songs and deadlines would come up or just stuff would happen. I will do that cover/remix thing eventually though, cos I really do like that song.

I want to start up a new alias for strictly pony related music but I can't decide on a genre/set of similar genres. I want to do something that's slightly rarer in the community than all the current mainstream EDM genres. There are so many genres that I love, I can't decide! :c

Make up your own genre. then it would actually be rare.
but that would take a LOT of creativity or something

No, I don't wanna do it for the sake of it. I want to a genre (one that I do actually like) that's not around in the community so much because we have so much electro house and dubstep etc. that it's oversaturated. On the other hand, I could go for psy trance, UK hardcore or liquid DnB as those aren't around nearly so much (although every genre has been covered basically).

Sounds like a good idea. Do you want to do it briefly 1 or 2 tracks or be "THAT" guy that specializes in it. I've done bits of funk, disco, country, you name it, because others weren't. It's not a big "advantage" (people know to subscribe for more of that) though unless you really fall in love with a genre that no one else is doing and want to keep making it time and time again. I'd hate to settle down with one. Being a multiple genre musician is a blessing (never get bored) and a curse (those who subscribe won't necessarily like the next track and you dont have a specific style).

I have my Pyrelight alias for a fair spread of EDM (when I get round to them), but I quite like the idea of having an alias solidly in a genre (or a group of matching genres e.g., UK hardcore, happy hardcore, eurobeat and the upbeat side of hardstyle) so people roughly know what they're getting with me.

Dude, theres so much liquid dnb in the pony pony. I mean, what do you do when you cant come up with a decent bassline? Throw a pad at it, totes liquid dnb. Seriously, the other ones, sure, but the majority of the pony dnb is liquid in my experience.

Now. Some UK Wonky pony shit, now thats an idea. Theres also a lack of like...garage.

I couldn't really think of the right thing so I put liquid down without thinking.. I had Pendulum's Hold Your Colour type stuff in my head, but like, the chiller side of it. Like Girl in the Fire or Sounds of Life. Wonky and Garage would be cool though ..

Man i would love some pony future garage. Do you mean Wonky like in off kilter dubstep and glitch hop? Or like in Wonky Techno like Landstrumm and Cristian Vogel style 4/4 techno?

Personally I think some Twilight themed purple sound would be quite cool.
