Before we get to the musical aspect of this compilation idea I have planned, we're going to have to delve into a bit of history for the 'conceptual' part. SCMP is based on the psychological theory of the four temperaments, which essentially states that there are four primary personality types. The four temperaments are:
- Sanguine: Sociable, Pleasure-Seeking, Impulsive, Courageous
- Choleric: Ambitious, Passionate, Aggressive, Energetic
- Melancholic: Despondent, Moody, Introspective, Tragic
- Phlegmatic: Relaxed, Quiet, Affectionate, Curious
Breaking them down even more simply, they essentially add up to:
- Sanguine: Light & Energetic
- Choleric: Dark & Energetic
- Melancholic: Dark & Tranquil
- Phlegmatic: Light & Tranquil
What does this have to do with music?
Now, for the musical aspect, the entire point of SCMP is to try to capture those temperaments through music, a compilation of a variety of different 'moods'. Of course, it would be outright absurd of me to attempt to organize four separate albums all at once and equally absurd to try to mish-mash all of those temperament types into a single album, so that's why I'm going to try organizing these albums one temperament at a time, starting here with Sanguine. If you think the music you usually make fits moreso under one of the other temperaments... well, stick around, because if this album takes off, we'll get to the other temperaments later on.
S:
We've determined that Sanguine can be defined as light & energetic, so, to cut to the chase, this particular 'contest' is for you to make one or two songs that would reflect the sanguine temperament. Electronic music is preferred, but if your song is well-made and reflects the theme, it should make the cut regardless of the genre.
Suggestions for electronic music genres that would fit with the Sanguine temperament:
- Glitch Hop [Example 1, Example 2]
- Main Room House [Example 1, Example 2]
- Electro House [Example 1, Example 2]
- Dubstep/'Brostep' [Example 1, Example 2]
- Hardstyle [Example 1, Example 2]
- Drum & Bass [Example 1, Example 2]
In any case, before I set in any definite deadlines or song limits, I'm going to be asking for advice, suggestions, and the like. I'd need some people offering to contribute songs, or offering to judge, or anything along the lines of that. So yeah, post if you're interested or if you have something in mind, won'tcha?
