[S]CMP – A Conceptual Compilation Idea

Postby NeonJalapeno » 30 Dec 2013 23:02

What is SCMP?

Before we get to the musical aspect of this compilation idea I have planned, we're going to have to delve into a bit of history for the 'conceptual' part. SCMP is based on the psychological theory of the four temperaments, which essentially states that there are four primary personality types. The four temperaments are:

  • Sanguine: Sociable, Pleasure-Seeking, Impulsive, Courageous
  • Choleric: Ambitious, Passionate, Aggressive, Energetic
  • Melancholic: Despondent, Moody, Introspective, Tragic
  • Phlegmatic: Relaxed, Quiet, Affectionate, Curious

Breaking them down even more simply, they essentially add up to:

  • Sanguine: Light & Energetic
  • Choleric: Dark & Energetic
  • Melancholic: Dark & Tranquil
  • Phlegmatic: Light & Tranquil

What does this have to do with music?

Now, for the musical aspect, the entire point of SCMP is to try to capture those temperaments through music, a compilation of a variety of different 'moods'. Of course, it would be outright absurd of me to attempt to organize four separate albums all at once and equally absurd to try to mish-mash all of those temperament types into a single album, so that's why I'm going to try organizing these albums one temperament at a time, starting here with Sanguine. If you think the music you usually make fits moreso under one of the other temperaments... well, stick around, because if this album takes off, we'll get to the other temperaments later on.

S:

We've determined that Sanguine can be defined as light & energetic, so, to cut to the chase, this particular 'contest' is for you to make one or two songs that would reflect the sanguine temperament. Electronic music is preferred, but if your song is well-made and reflects the theme, it should make the cut regardless of the genre.

Suggestions for electronic music genres that would fit with the Sanguine temperament:

In any case, before I set in any definite deadlines or song limits, I'm going to be asking for advice, suggestions, and the like. I'd need some people offering to contribute songs, or offering to judge, or anything along the lines of that. So yeah, post if you're interested or if you have something in mind, won'tcha?

I think this is a Great Concept that You should definitely start up here! I particularly dig Melancholic as that not only suits many ideas I want to explore more, but my Music Idol(Founder of "Pink Floyd") Syd Barrett had this Temperament in the latter years of his Life. I think this would be very interesting and Quite Exciting to song write about. I'm definitely going to see How my band should be involved in these albums(especially Melancholic!). Fantastic Concept! And Fantastic of an Album to pursue, I'll let you know When my band shall start work on this momentous project!
My influence of music is mostly from Syd Barrett And Of course the Band he Started "Pink Floyd".

This is kinda neat - do you have any plans for what to do with this and how to organise it etc.?

Well you have an idea for an album but haven't actually done any event structure for it. Sounds like this is non-pony? What deadline are you looking at? Free, pay for profit, or for a charity?, Are there any common elements to link all these unrelated songs for an album concept? You have a skype chat running or any vounteers already?

Again you have an interesting concept, but thats as far as you've come, you just need to plan it out further for it (and look how other event albums are organized) to at least be an open event project. ;)

Indeed, this album is very much non-pony.

Freewave wrote:What deadline are you looking at?

I haven't really decided on one -- I'm thinking maybe May or so, but I don't have any definite deadlines in mind. It depends on the general consensus as well as how progress on the songs is going. When I've decided on a date, there won't be any delays or extensions, however.

Freewave wrote:Free, pay for profit, or for a charity?

Free.

Freewave wrote:Are there any common elements to link all these unrelated songs for an album concept?

Generally, I'd like for the album to be dominantly melodic, uplifting in tone, a strong sense of excitement and such. A party album, basically.

Freewave wrote:You have a skype chat running or any vounteers already?

1.) No Skype chat yet, but if there's demand for it, I'll set one up.
2.) Aside from the other posters in this thread, I've got a couple of friends who say they'll definitely do something for the album, and a few more considering it. Hoping to get a few more volunteers here. A few people volunteering to judge would be nice as well.

And as for issues addressed in your tumblr post but not in your forum post, I'll definitely try to keep a Skype chat on-topic if I make one, there WILL be quality control (mixing and mastering will be judged, but not as critically as the composition of the song itself), and I'll do my best to promote the album, although I'd need help in promoting it.
