[Electro] How can I give my choruses more energy?

Postby ROFLPIZZA » 17 Nov 2013 15:25

Yeah, sorry for not putting this in the Technique thread. I couldn't post anything there. I don't know why. This seemed to be the 'next best' place. Anyway, yeah, just as the title states. I can't figure out how to give my choruses more energy. Here's a snippit of something I've been playing around with as an example. What am I doing wrong?

Yes, right. Fixed it. Sorry. I was updating the snippit because I've been working on it since this was posted. It should work now.

Try putting less in the verse. You can probably take out the hats, and your chorus will sound more energetic by comparison.

Thanks! I tried that and it sounded better. Also, the post was more of a general thing, not specifically this track. Lack of energy seems to be an issue I have across all projects.

I'm also thinking less in the verse and more in the chorus. Add an extra synth that's not used anywhere else or something.

I've heard that some people lower the volume by about 0.5 db in the verse and increase it in the chorus. I haven't tried it myself, but it might be something to check out. Same with a bassbooster, which kicks in during the Chorus, but is left off in the rest of the song

I'll try that, thanks!

First thing I'm noticing is you might need a better buildup to build tension. For the drop, you could always trying adding some white noise in the background to make it seem fuller. That's a trick a lot of musicians use. Also, it seems like almost the only thing you use during the drop is the bass, and I can kind of hear a very quiet laserish kind of synth. Maybe you should bring up the volume on the laser synth, but in general your drop seems to be a bit empty and adding more synths to fill the empty spaces might help a lot.

Thanks a bunch! I hadn't really done anything to write a decent buildup because at that point I'd only been working on it for a few hours. I'm probably going to work on it next. I'll be updating the snippit as I work on it. But yes, thanks again. I'm going to take this all into consideration for the update after this one.
