Basically what Introit said. Reduce the bass synth, which should never be louder than the percussion.

I'm a melodic person, so this may come off as highly opinionated. Within gritty/minimalist electro, this is great. But see about throwing down another percussion instrument (ideally syncopated) to for depth's sake. I was thinking about something like the clap's function in "Alive" by Mondotek*. The snare is on beats 2 and 4, but the clap occasionally comes in with a syncopated line.

This is my remix of Gemini's "Fire Inside." I know it's lost relevance, but I've been doing a whole lot more promoting and DJing than producing lately. It still needs some final balancing and EQing, but I'm surprised by how good it already sounds.

*Sorry if you find that track obnoxious, but it's a good example for this context.

Hate aside, here's my [attempted] critique of this WIP.

There's a variety of different wubs here, so the brosteppers shouldn't get bored of it very soon.
I like the cymbal and the panning effect at the end, though if it's going to be the ending of your final track, I'd say it ends a bit too abruptly. Maybe you can try adding 8 bars of sub-bass and drums in between the heavy wubs and the ending cymbals to make for a smoother transition to the end?

My general opinion regarding brostep: Every brostep track does is: Intro for 55 seconds - High frequency basses - Cooldown - High frequency basses again - Ending. There's not too much of a variety here, so there's a lot of variety needed in order to stand out in this genre.

I can't find it in my soul to remove that brief hardcore section, but I'm listening through it and making sure there aren't any ear-bleeding frequency clashes (for example, I've been told that I'm pretty mid-heavy). And for the saw, it just needed doubling. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before.

Here is how its done.

First off, the vocals sounds great, but maybe could use a bit of reverb or some fun glitching in the verses. Also, in the chorus when she sings "Ohhhhh no alibi, no alibi...etc" The "Ohhhhh seems a bit quiet in comparison to the "no alibi". Id either lower the "no alibi" or raise the "Ohh" a bit. At 2:28 the little buildup could be a bit louder or perhaps start a bit earlier to properly lead into that big synth. Also, the ending feels a tad abrupt. Otherwise a very solid, kicking track! Word to your mother broskee, represent!

Nice chill DnBish song. The melody is really catchy, but it gets old when you loop it end over end with no variation. The drums could use some more presence (try panning, stereo widening, reverb with very short release times, etc. Compress at own risk). Before the drop at 1:40 you could use more of a build before using that Freq. fading type transition. The bass seems a little basic, but fits well enough with everything else. Nice addition of the saw at 2:29. I stopped listening at 4:14ish.

Overall good track, it is solid but you could have put more small details into to make it shine.

Nice piano intro, maybe add in some "human irregularities." The drop is very interesting and has a fresh sound to it. I don't hear anything that I would deem "off." I don't think there is much to review, I would listen to it as is if it was released like this. The only thing I can criticize is the piano being so rigid.

Are you using a hard limiter or distortion on that lead in the intro? It almost sounds like it is clipping, and the wave form seems to back that up. Great intro and build though. The drop's bass is pretty basic IMO, it does the same thing pretty much every time and doesn't seem to be mixed in with everything else. It also drowns out everything else when it hits. I'd add a little variation and turn it down a bit. Otherwise great job!

Honestly I don't have much to say that would add anything that hasn't been said already. Kick volume at :50, Synth volume at 2:00. Melody and structure is very good, not much needing to be done there.

I don't understand why people hate on "brostep." There are people who pull it off well. Your WIP (right?) is super solid, nice variances in the bass and stuff, now finish it and make it a full track :B

Cool remix, just like your track I already "reviewed," it's all there and is a solid track, it just needs polishing and those small details that will make it really shiny. More processing on drums, EQ all the things!, a little more variance here and there, etc.

Edit: One thing that i thougt was a little off about lost. was the start. it sounded a bit like it was gonna be that for a while which dont get me wrong it was nice. but the transition seemed a bit sudden. And there is another part in which the transition was to sudden or off. On this one part it plays low and then goes back to full volume. It kinda messes with the mood i think. I personally dont mind but I think others might not be to quick to look past it. But there are also some good positives. One being the steady rythym you had after the intro. it was well organized. and syncronisation of the instruments was amazing. Oh and sorry for the first crappy review.

It's difficult to critique experimental work, but you might not care for the clicking that begins at the beginnings of your synths when they first play a note. A slight attack might help with that. It is due to the waveform starting from a non 0db position, so if you can edit the waveform to begin at 0, you should try that. Often you can do this by changing the phase offset (not to be confused with the phaser effect). The mixing gets very muddy in the middle, but that may be intentional if you're going for distorted warmth.

@Circutfry I really like this track, the drums at the start are a bit too hard but after that its really cool. The vocals are really nice sounding, and the entire song is just really unique. The bass thing around 2:30 gets a bit repetitive though. I'm bad at technical terms regarding EDM, so I can't really suggest anything there, but in terms of composition it would nice to have a mellower breakdown somewhere in there. It's pretty intense all the way through, and a little tiring to listen too.

Really soothing and I quite like the artwork, nice and simple. My only real gripe is that the instruments sound a little artifical. Some reverb all round would have helped fill the track in a little. I really love the melodies.

The structuring is well done, but the composition doesn't quite match. Sure, it sounds relaxing and all, but there doesn't seem to be a general theme related to the composition, as the song seems to go a lot from slow and peaceful to a faster but not overly fast pace, that makes the track somewhat uneasy to relax to. It's still pretty good though.

The mixing sounds a bit like it could use some work, as the piano feels like it's almost being drowned out by the violins. At some points in the song I feel that there isn't a central lead element, like you're putting your hamburger, fries soda and brownie into a blender and calling it your dinner. It's appetizing (I guess), but it's not as satisfying as eating them separately.

Overall, it's a pretty decent 7.25/10, good job on it.

Wonderful structure and composition. No further comments on these

The mixing is really well done. I love the heavy reverb on the vocals that give the airy, angelic feeling. My only gripes are volume changes that would be so minuscule, it wouldn't matter much, mostly relating to the pluck being around 1dB too loud, so not bad, the hoover saw? that jumps in at 1:27 is a bit loud and could stand to be lowered a tiny bit, but otherwise it's good as is and is just subject of my opinion, haha. The snare somewhat sounds like it's leading and sticks out a bit much, but still sounds just fine. The kick could use a bit more power behind it, it sounds a bit thin, but is also just fine.

Overall, it's a great 8.5/10. Also, any reason the name "strobe"? I can't really understand the lyrics, haha, but deadmau5 has a pretty famous song also called "strobe", just fyi.
