Quitting music

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Add in a keyboard so you can actually play what you want.

WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. :o

Well duh, but those don't cost a lot of money. Having a midi keyboard isn't the same as having a hugeass studio. :P

But I don't even have money, so I'm stuck using a PC keyboard that I picked up for $20. Or the keyboard inside my laptop, but why should I use that?

Time to get a hugeass studio.

You know good midi keyboards get as cheap as 50 bucks, right?

Heck, you even got a laptop. I WISH I could afford one! :P

It was to replace my old 1.15HGz (singlecore) 256MB RAM system that kept of crashing. My laptop cost me $400. CHEAPEST ONE WAS A QUAD-CORE. YES. And it's now more or less stuck permanently in its mess of wires.

Anyway, I don't even have $10, but I think I'd be saving up for a NES or something.

I guess it's a matter of priorities...

And in your case, a matter of time until you got some disposable income. No need to rush things, take your time. ;)

I think game dev. can bring good money if your team only has 4 developers. Not a lot of expenses there.

This should be a nice thread for anypony, feeling like they arent getting better, to read. Everypony goes through this ^_^ (it is a horrible stage)
What keeps me off from doing music are..... videogames, they just make me SO LAZY, i just sit here, open a videogame, and after a little while of playing 2-3 hours passed by, gosh, videogames are drugs foals, dont try them.

Ugh, I know that feeling...

Seriously, almost everyday I make a new track, declare it's "shit" and abandon it forever. You should see how much my hard-drive is clogged up with unfinished bit's and bob's. My opinion on my music is low. The main problem I have is I always ask myself, "Would I actually listen to this crap if it wasn't me?" 9 times out of 10, the answer is no.

The thing is though, I just have too much fun making tunes! Part of the reason I don't finish every single one is that I like to keep them for myself to play with almost like a game that never ends. I find it far more fulfilling making something that I can play with by myself (INB4 fap joke) than subjecting it to the harsh words of the scrutinizing public.
My rule is, if the fun stops, I stop.

Meh, but I'm weird. I can't really say much else that hasn't already been said already, but I'm glad to see that you're sticking with it. I think that that kind of positive attitude will most likely show off in your work, too! So good luck!

(Also, grr! I wanted to seem knowledgeable & insightful by posting that Ira Glass quote! Damn you Aussie with your knowledge and insightfulness-ssuss-uss--ssss!)

Hey Facade,
Ive have been here for a while listening to your music. Your Getting better not worse. I know what your going through. Hell, last week i uploaded a song and i was almost pegged for copyright for it. Art Attack Saved my ass. I used something already done because i was in a slump and forgot where i heard that chord from. But what you have what ive heard from you is people are remixing your work. In my books that means your getting somewhere. You Are and beleive me ive seen you grow yourself as a musician. Dont Quit. You'll Dissapoint alot of people. We already lost NotACleverPony, We dont need to lose another great musician. Do us all a favor. If need be take a break but do not quit.

Just going to put in that there isn't only one gap. I had a gap a while back, in my shitty-hands-up phase, I quit for a while, then got inspired again. Then I hit a shorter one a while back. You just gotta keep pushing though. Make shit, try shit, DO things. It's the only way to get better, and the only way to keep yourself going.

Also, @Spike, no problem, haha.

If you can't afford a copy, the IGF Pirate Kart is close enough.

(Note that Action 52 is a cartridge I want to get into my collection)

*Crawls out of the hole in the wall*

Oh! New people in this deep dark unforgiving pit of nothingness and despair? Lovely! I'll go put on tea.

This is what I've been doing when I get all depressed like this; I fire up Skyrim, make a new character, and then promptly do every stupid thing I shouldn't that I can think of short of just straight up punching a guard while naked. The first time I die; I close Skyrim, and fire up FL Studio again.

It's a nice little break, and being a dumb ass is entertaining for some reason; the happy kills the sad.

Or y'know, I close Skyrim, get distracted with real music, YouTube, emails, daydreaming, texting, IRC, MLR, EQD, and fall back into self-pity again...

But yeah, uhm... Sec...

I know that feel. I feel sometimes my stuff's unoriginal and it's a disservice to anyone who happens to listen. That and I barely have time to work on music anymore, but the important thing is to keep on truckin'. Download a new VST, watch a tutorial, something that'll get you out of your rut.

We've all been in that situation, bro (At least most of us have). Like I said, the important thing is this: If you think you need improvement on something, do it. Try something new. Play around with FL Studio a bit, throw music and the wall and see what sticks.
