Chrysalis was a bad ruler. The rulers before her were able to keep the changeling populace in a harmonious state where they could sustain them selves on the positive energy of their own society. Things were already in a state of decline however, before Chrysalis became ruler. When she did, she was not able to pull changeling society from the depression they were in and she could not fix their failing society. The harmon of the changeling species was gone, and many lived in sorrow.

Chrysalis started her war effort to try and avert this crisis, shifting the blame to the ponies of Equestria and leading her people to believe that a diplomatic way had failed and the only way for changelings to get the love they new to survive back was by taking over the most harmonious land in the world: Equestria.

Diplomacy had not failed, however. Chrysalis never tried a diplomatic route. She is a warrior, not a diplomat. A fighter and not a talker. She place great pride and confidence in her abilities because she feared failure would make her appear weak, so she stuck to what she knew best.

As the fight to gain control of Equestria became stronger, the war effort became larger and the changeling populace could work together again in harmony after a long time of civil distrust and hatred.

However, the ponies of Equestria, when faced with this threat did not try diplomacy either. And like all good countries at war, they made sure their war effort made all changelings appear as monsters, and used the media to scare the populace and make them fear the changelings.


The changelings aren't evil. They're just like the ponies of Equestria. However during the timeframe we know them from they were ruled by a tyrannical dictator who was forced to desperate actions to feed her hive.
