I really liked the episode, it'll be interesting to see how they progress this show now that twilight is a princess.
They only problem I feel major is that it was wayyyy to short and thus felt rushed :3

I don't really know what to say...
I mean... I really enjoyed it...
But was it good?

The structure did feel odd, but it does make sense if you view it from the perspective of being the prelude to season 4's first two episodes, as Megan McCarthy implied. I guess Twilight will probably lose her wings by by the end of s4e2, although this show isn't really playing by the rules anymore, so who knows? Looking back on season three, I think it would be appropriate to name it "The weird season", unless season four is somehow even weirder, which is a possibility with the way things are going.

One thing I really appreciate about the finale was that before the focus shifted to Twilight activating god mode it first gave the other five their due and reaffirmed their own destinies. I think doing that was worth any interruption in the episode's pacing.

Wait, before I rant, I must ask a few questions. Wtf is up with Star Swirl the Bearded? It has been mentioned that he created over 200 spells, he has his own wing in the Canterlot Library, and he was the mentor of one of Equestria's founders...

What happened to him? I mean, did he become a prince, or even an alicorn? (Note that we've only seen mares as alicorns, never stallions) If so, then where is he now? Or were his actions disregarded somehow? (Even though they weren't???) Also, I'm not buying the whole "Twilight finished his absolute masterpiece of a spell" stuff. Three things:

One: She created a COUNTERspell, not an actual new spell.
Two: I doubt it was meant to be his "greatest" spell, considering that there's a disease that does the same thing. (Granted, it's a disease, not a spell, but still) This point could either be strengthened or negated if we found out what happened to SSTB. If he died while making it, then I can believe that he wasn't able to finish it. If it turns out he's still around, it means he most likely abandoned it. I doubt he would just give up.
Three (OK maybe 2.5): Think about the spell. Switching cutie marks. So apparently, time travel is mildly impressive, an "all-encompassing shapeless spell" aka omniomorphic spell is barely even recognized, proven by Twilight's mispronunciation, (Though this would only be true if the leaked Discord lines are considered canon) and I think it's safe to assume he had something to do with the creation of the aging spell. Yeah. He's done better.

So yeah, plotholes much? A lot of it is over-analysis and theory, but I really think this is something that should (And probably will) be addressed in the future. I'm not trying to say that Twilight doesn't deserve to be an alicorn, or at least, I'm not trying to say that here, but I'm just saying that Celestia should give credit where it's due. :P

Actually, it doesn't really matter since Star Swirl is Discord anyways. ;)

EDIT: Aw shoot, I forgot about the part where Twilight receives a letter from Celestia saying that SSTB gave up on it. While I still have a hard time believing it, it's tough to argue with solid evidence. XP

If they ever had to actually introduce him, who would voice act him? It'd have to be someone absolutely EPIC to live up to the hype.

Ok, so the topics behind the first few clips from episodes they revealed were very well thought out in my opinion, hopefully Hasbro manages to fix their constant problem of hastily beginning and ending episodes. Now for the real kicker, HOLY SHIT nightmare moon is back, that was really fucking unexpected, god. That episode better be a double, holy fuck that looks like it'll be a good episode. I wish it could be like Dragon Ball Z where we just vaporize the villains or toss them into the sun and be done with it.

Seriously? DBZ reuses villains all the time (as seen with Frieza, who appears in multiple episodes. I don't really know much about DBZ because I've only seen one episode where Frieza was beaten by Vegeta, but I'm assuming he'll appear in a later episode as well, not to mention the previous episodes he's appeared in). Moral of the story: It's ok to reuse villains, as long as they aren't ones that have been destroyed completely. If Hasbro were to bring back Sombra, it'd be more ridiculous than some things.

Why is it that with you, everything has to go a certain way, or can't go a certain way without being unnecessary or bad? Seriously, the plot for the Luna episode can more than definitely be explainable and worth while. Sister holds grudge against older sister for past events, never really fully recovered emotionally so she's still angry, and then there's suddenly a new princess that she has to share power with, as if the night she already doesn't like because of how it isn't liked as much as the day was too much power, so she wants to take revenge, you get the idea. We discover a whole lot more about Luna in the spoilers alone, in that she's not so much some cute and peaceful ruler with her sister, but has a power hungry side, being shadowed by her sister. Which is very realistic. I have an older brother and a younger one, as well as a younger sister who's 10 years younger than me. I can attest to wanting the attention and such that my older brother would get, and my younger brother displays these traits as well (although I can't really see them very well myself). This episode not only makes sense, but had we known more about Luna than we previously did, this episode would have been predictable, even if Hasbro didn't want to fan service us.

Freeza is an arc villain, he's the big bad of practically the entire series from the Saiyan Saga till he dies. It's not like MLP where the villains last for an episode. Most other villains are like this as well and have their own sagas; ex: Cell, Majin Buu, the Saiyans, or have a movie dedicated to them; ex: Cooler, Broly, Lord Slug.

Discounting "escaping from Hell" segments, which are filler and last for an episode, this is what happens to the villains that I can remember at this moment...
Freeza/Frieza is killed by Trunks in minutes of appearing after his first defeat, along with King Cold who wasn't a villain prior to this.
Zarbon and Dodoria are vaporized and don't return.
Nappa is vaporized by Vegeta and doesn't return.
The Ginyu Force are all killed except for Ginyu himself, who is trapped in the body of a frog. None of them return as threats.
Cooler is launched into the sun. This one is one of the few where they reused a villain (he fused with the Big Gete Star and became Meta-Cooler, and was destroyed). His henchmen Sauza, Dore, and Neiz are all killed and don't return.
Broly was thrown into the sun.
Cell is vaporized by Gohan.
Lord Slug is vaporized by Goku(?).
Not sure what happens with Majin Buu, but he actually becomes good (something like that).
Raditz is killed and doesn't return.
Bills does not get defeated, but is not really evil.
Vegeta is perhaps the only evil character to have a heel-face turn aside from Piccolo in the beginning.

Point is, DBZ does not reuse villains.
