I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure what other incentives any artists who are debating taking part in TLK feel they need covered.

The stated goal of the project is/was giving exposure to unnoticed artists. Therefore, we expect at least some exposure from it. When I remembered I didn't get any for TLK3, I decided I didn't want to participate in this one.

This project is an opportunity to:
1. Create a song you may not have come up with otherwise
2. Have that song featured on an album alongside the work of other artists
3. Make connections and maybe even friendships with those other artists!
4. Receive constructive criticism for your work
5. Help put together a project in which the proceeds will be going directly to charity

I guess I just don't understand what else anyone would be trying to achieve from involvement in a fandom related collaboration album.

Except those aren't good incentives for me, as:
1. The same could be said for anything, really. Every time you sit down and make a song there's something else you could've been doing instead.
2. Ok, but that's not incentive enough for me to join.
3. I already have connections and friendships with a lot of the people who would be submitting. Less MLR-happy people might view this as a reason, but speaking from past experience (I was on TLK3) you really don't interact with other artists on the album at all unless you're collabing.
4. You can get that anywhere. Besides, only 1 or 2 people gave me feedback on the song once it was out, and 1 of those barely counted (*cough*vladnuke*cough*).
5. Well that's a new one (still not enough incentive for me). Did you do that for the previous ones, Belgerum?

From what I've experienced/seen of TLK, the series continually helps bring together a small community among many of those who have worked on it. I'm not sure if popularity is one of these incentives people may feel is missing here, but if that is the case, while there may not be big names among the fandom contributing tracks and subsequent popularity to it, I think it's safe to say the connections resulting from the project are more important than any popularity gained.

See above, specifically number 3 on the list and my first statement.

Belgerum, please please please do not take this as me putting down your idea. While I personally won't be participating I still think this should be a thing and should definitely be completed.

Me too. (As in, I don't want to put you down). I kind of feel like a jerk for what I had previously said, but I meant it. It has already begun, continue it.
But seriously Belg, don't take offense to what I said because it was just an idea and your ideas are probably better than mine so... You know. This is a good album line, but for the next one, wait 6+ months so that it doesn't come around too often and stuff.

@nine volt.
I liked your song from TLK3, but not enough that I LOVED it. Don't be offended, I never looked into any of the artists.

Don't beat yourself up, Belgerum. You're doing a great job!

tl;dr- TLK is way awesome and while it's totally cool and understandable that people have other obligations, it shouldn't be written off for a lack of incentives and should definitely to continue to be a thing!

I concur with what this guy said. I apologize that my initial response sparked what has transpired now. I still stand with what I said however, that it should have been started, or the deadline should've been planned at a time with less volume in terms of events.

I do hope you continue TLK, because I am genuinely disappointed that I could not be apart of this one due to me having too much on my plate. I'd love to be apart of TLK 5. It's not easy to organize an album Belg, you're doing a good job.

I just came back after a while to see the $#!Tstorm that followed my last comment. To be honest guys, I feel like now, I just want to leave all this behind and focus on just finishing this album for now. I am not offended by anything I have seen, nor will I hold anything against anyone for whatever their stance is. I just want to get this done now.

IN OTHER NEWS, the WIP's are due by tomorrow at midnight. If you're participating, please send that stuff in ASAP.

If you posted your WIP here in MLR, but not sent it privately to me like I specifically asked in the OP, I am going to go through here one last time tomorrow and post those with the other WIP's anyway. I know some people might not like that I'm only letting the lazy people be lazy, but I think if people went so far as to make a WIP, they should still deserve a spot amongst the other WIPs.

Meanwhile, we have a bunch of WIPs already posted on the doc, (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fMc ... vWUk/edit#) so if you guys want to start passing feedback around, feel free to go ahead and do it.

(and I have no idea what we're doing with cover art. If all else fails, we can just go with that crappy thing I made in about 20 minutes.)

Yeah, same here. I would love to participate, but I've got quite a bit going on as it is, and not a lot of time through personal stuff.

Again, sorry. I'll definitely prioritize this though if there ends up being a 5th album!

Same rock tune I posted before, but now I added an acoustic intro. I wish I had a better mic. >.>

That's fine, but looking back through previous TLK album covers, don't them all involve the CMC in some way?

It has been up for a while... It's the 10th one on the list.

In other news, WIPS are officially due and done with. If you guys are really desperate, I MIGHT be convinced to add stuff, but as of right now, we've got 18 good WIP's on the doc.

For the next round, we need completed tracks. I'm not going to say it needs to be final mixing/mastering and a few instruments may be yet to be added, but for the next date, you should have a track that is the length you want, with most of the basic material inside. Make sure you don't make it too repetitive, but let's get working! The complete tracks are due by Thursday, August 1st.

Also, the document is up with links to all 18 WIPs. Be sure to go and give your peers some feedback to work with, and Be sure to look at what other people think of your stuff as well! I'll go through and give my opinion on a bunch of tracks tomorrow morning, but I sure hope I'm not the only one they'll go around doing such! Feedback is an important part to making a track better over time!

*smiles and acts like everything is perfectly fine, which it hopefully is*

Just wondering, can you put a small teaser on your YT page and what not to get people hyped for this album? Not your entire song, but a little teaser so people get hyped. Is that ok?

yes, this is fine. In fact, if it encourages people to get the album, it would actually be a big help.

If you can, make the teaser like a pmv using Sony after effects. That would look cool and I know that that is more interesting than simple images with words and music.

Oh dear, I only just discovered this. Is it a requirement to submit a WIP and then a final track, or can I just submit a final track now? (Since I missed the WIP submission date.)
