Okay, one...there is no set number of tracks that will make the album...and it will be judged by the artists in the skype group, democratically...(it will be described when the time comes...)

the album will be free with donations enabled, the proceeds will go to an agreed charity of the members (or to MLR for server maintenance or something...either way, I'm allowing the community to choose(

Does it need to be pony music? If so, I'm not gonna participate - but I will signal boost.

If it doesn't have to be pony related I'll probably try putting something together.

Actually it would be pretty cool if there was a dedicated ongoing project that did a different pony each month and an album full of tracks towards that. People could remix some great oldies (like Eurobeat's Luna or NACP Lunar Empire for this Luna album) and some new tracks. I'm not saying THIS album would have to be directly associated with that but it would be a cool thing to cover all these characters throughout a year or so and to keep it a theme. Kind of a LITTLE what Balloon PArty kind of tried to do but MUCH more character focused. I think the best events are ones that have a little planning so that they become an ongoing series (The Lesser Knowns, Seeds of Kindness) rather then simply a dead ended one shot.

You know, I'd be for that as well. I don't think Luna would exactly be fitting of a Summer album, but still, I digress. It would be really cool. The only question would be... Which characters? Obviously, the Mane 6, Luna, Celestia, maybe Cadance and Shining Armor, but there's still two more slots! And who to where! OH THE QUESTIONS.

Isnt this kinda what toastbeard is about?

Toastbeard is general themes about anything pony, this would be about specific ponies. Similar, definitely, but different enough to warrant a separate event I think. I'd be totally up for that!

I also might end up making something for this album too. Easy-listening night-themed music is right up my alley :)

Toast Beard was awesome back in the day, it really should be what all these new musicians should be jumping on (but i don't think are). It was a training ground for making about MLP. I remember Aviators winning week after week (6 in a row) when i first came on and he may have been the last significant well known brony musician that came through there (i could be wrong). People forget how many of the top tracks of 2011 came through there (Rainbow Factory, 3/4 of Jackleapp's Seasons eps, etc). More importantly it was a lot of fun to all listen to each others tracks as a group. I think that changing the times to make autstralians happy kinda began hurting the turnout.

Just published this as i made it long ago to highlight some of the importance of those early months. http://rateyourmusic.com/list/TheScient ... first_28_/

But no Toast Beard never pinpointed to a specific pony it was a lot more general mlp concept themed (ponies in space, battle theme for a pony, pirates, revisi8tng failed ideas). Would it be cool to have a Luna album, an Applejack album, a Vinyl Scratch album (Lyra, Octavia, etc)? Yeah i think that could be really cool if enough people would jump on board and if it was properly organized. I think it could really excite people to see pony themes AS the essential focus as well as revisit classic character tracks thru remixes. Not like with Balloon Party where you make just make a fun party track and say its Pinkie themed but you actually make a song about the character (Pinkie Pie). And unlike Toast Beard IF we make this a monthly thing we could get the time to get quality submissions vs rushing the results.

I'm not doing anything specifically pony, and its open to anything, just respect the nightlife, whether that's some awesome trance to put us asleep, or epic club house, shoot...

Honestly, Kingsley's Summer Sun Celebration album and thus one go hand in hand...I had kinda planned it to be complimentary to his

I'm done quoting, but I'm going to say "Pixel Agrees" to everything else including the stuff about Toastbeard.

I can most probably particapate in this! Luna has always been a huge favourite, so yeah, I'm in!

EDIT: I got an idea, people have indirectly mentioned it with remix ideas, but why don't we include NACP's "For The Lunar Republic" because it was one of the first songs that got a lot of people to remix it, and NACP was a founder of this forum (if memory serves right). So, for the forum's first (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) community Luna album, I can't think of a more proper tribute track than "For The Lunar Republic". Opinion?
I love making music, but I don't have a genre I stick to. I just want to make music, so if you want to hit me up for a collab, go right ahead!

I like the idea if I understand what you're suggesting...

Are you saying to include the original...like Track 01?
or are you saying someone should remix it AGAIN?

Yes, I am suggesting the original. Remixes are fine and all, but for the first community album in the forum that NACP help found, it would only make sense to include NACP's most popular Luna track, especially how it was the one the first mass-remixed songs in the community as a whole!

Well NACP left the community a LONG time ago so getting permission would likely be very difficult. Plus who hasn't heard it by now?

If anything i might make the "do a whole compilation on one character" into a "do a whole mixtape on a character" instead. I've let me dj skills get rusty and this would be the perfect opportunity to play new and old tracks in quick succession, on theme, and do as a monthly thing. But carry on lads if you want to keep this project of new tracks alive.

I hate to say this (I'm kidding of course :3) but I agree with Freewave; aside from NACP no longer being present in the community at all, For The Lunar Republic is one of, if not THE most remixed tracks in the entire brony fandom (someone did a countup a while back). Most everybody's heard the song by now. Plus, again, getting permission for a 3rd party remix competition from someone who is no longer active in any fashion would be difficult if not downright impossible. Not to mention getting the stems and MIDI file. I mean, I have the MIDI and the bass stem but I have a hobby of collecting that kind of stuff.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but if you're going to do something like this you probably should just have everyone do an original.

I see your point, and it makes sense! Just having everyone make a original is a much easier idea. I still think it would be cool to have it as a tribute track, kind of as a final farewell to NACP, but I understand your point of view. If that's what will work, that's what will work, no sense arguing for something that won't work. I'll still be putting in a track, so no worries there!

I do like where you're going with that idea, though! I might try and throw in a little tribute to NACP in here somewhere, maybe use a melody from one of her songs (Princess Luna's Lullaby, most likely) for a couple bars.

I don't think people outside of those who see this thread will see it as a tribute. They'll probablu just see it as plagiarism.

True, very true, maybe this whole thing was a bad idea, maybe I just should not have brought it up in the first place. Oh well, live and learn, I guess, unless someone can figure out a non-plagraizing way of tributing NACP. I say, just let the idea die.

I don't think it will be difficult at all to make it come off as a tribute rather than plagiarism. If I do it, it will be in a way that makes sense.

I now the feeling...I WAS gonna produce something for Summer Sun...I WAS gonna do something for Lesser Knowns...but IDK anymore...I have the required WIP for the latter...but I've got only one loop for SSC

anyways...

I don't see myself being able to- wait...I don't even recognixze the track...anyways...if the original artist wants to submit the track, I would include it...I don't see much reason to turn away anything besides farting into the microphone and distorting it (Oops...sorry Skrillex fans...I kid I kid...)

Nonono! It was an awesome idea! just, I have no connections to him, and would have a touch time getting the rights to the song...
Although it could be included as a filler track, with a notice that we included it without ermission, and he retains all rights to the track...it IS a free album...
