i made One Last Shot even tho it was a total mess and a miserable experience trying to make a song for it and i'm still not satisfied w/ the glitching, i was even this close to asking CircuitFry to not include my song on the album but oh well

I'm just kinda miserable right now, because of a whole bunch of stuff. I know it'll be better once I've had some sleep, but I just don't see anything in the future for me. I don't even know how to describe how I feel, just kind of grey, I guess.

Well, that's my whinge done for the next few weeks I suppose. Hugs to everyone who needs them :)

My left ear is so fucked up from this cold I have. It's all dull and muted like there's water in it, except there's not, and it's been like this for over a week. I've done everything I can to try to unpop it with no luck, so now I'm sitting here working on music with the master panned over to the left 50% so it sounds balanced and aaghghgdsh it's irritating as hell.

It's not plugged at all is it? If you think it is, a harmless way to unplug it is to put some mineral oil down the ear and let it sit there for about 10 minutes or so, don't wash it out for about an hour. I had my ears plugged not too long ago and that's what I did, worked like a charm.

Not sure what you mean by plugged, but I'm fairly certain it's just because of how congested I've been recently. I'd just kind of assumed it would go away with my cold, but it's taking its sweet time.

I'm really sorry to say that I'm leaving and I don't know when I'm coming back.
There's been an overwhelming amount of stress and shit, and I'm extremely un-self-confident. I can't deal with any sort of community right now, no matter my status within it.
I don't know when I return. For all I know, it might be tomorrow.
Again, I'm sorry. Goodbye.

Because this is the hugging and venting thread i feel it's okay to post this here.

Hello,My name is Storm and i'm somewhat a producer if you could call me that. I have been trying my hand at music for around 2 years now having The living tombstone and Woodentoaster (Glaze) as my idols of this fandom for music. I started music about 2 years ago and i really honestly haven't seen any real improvement. To be honest i don't even know how to make the genres i want properly which is a bit sad when you think about it. And before you say oh maybe you should look at tutorials and other things i have and i find they don't help me much i use fl studio 10 as my daw and have very low knowledge of massive or sound design. Which kinda sucks because i want to peruse the dubstep and electro and dnb genre or hands up. But enough about that i start to get hopeless these days and i have the Dreamer type of procrastination and etc. I also have troubles starting on a project or making the proper sound in vsts. I have more recently added some of the tutors from the mlr tutor list but have received very minimal help i can't really expect them to teach me. They are just suppose to help not fully teach you a whole genre heh i wish it was that way but it's not. So i try to make a song or something and to be blunt i really don't have a good enough understanding of melodys or sound design so yeah i sit there and try but give up a little to easy and i know that but i honestly can't help my self i'm sorta a perfectionist at heart so if it doesn't sound good enough i just get mad. I also usually compare myself to others and put myself down i don't know why i'm usually like saying stuff like i'm never going to be good as tombstone i may as well just give up or i couldn't make a melody like woodentoaster. I know they have been doing it way longer then i have like way longer but i expected me to be somewhat descent and be putting out a few tracks by now. but instead just keep comparing me to others and hoping that i get good but wishing and doing are two different things i just wish i knew how to act more then i talked. then i think sometimes what if i put out a track and no one likes it what do i do then did i do something wrong or etc. I just hope someone can help me out with this i'm tired of being this way and not being as good as i want to. i guess i really have nothing else to say. i guess all i can say now is thanks for reading and hopefully you can reply to this.

^I'm feeling exactly like you right now - except I'm a rock artist that admires various acts from the 80s. It helps somewhat to keep in mind that:

- You'll never be like any artist you can name, because everyone's got their own style of composition, songwriting, mixing, and doing anything necessary to make a tune.
- True perfection doesn't exist, so while you may strive for it, you'll never reach it. Don't get frustrated over that. Even big productions such as Hollywood movies or big bands' albums have their inconveniences.
- That said, the definition of perfection can be highly subjective, since everyone likes different music. Do what you like, and if other people like it, good.
- Remember that most people that will listen to your stuff aren't pro audio engineers ready to critique every single aspect of your mixing, etc. They probably won't notice insignificant mistakes that bother you so much (because you've listened to your song so many goddamn times already). Some examples I can name: Most brony rock musicians (that I know at least) have some mistakes on their mixing or technique - sometimes huge ones - but people like them anyway. Most of Skrillex's releases have a horrible dynamic range, yet he went mainstream somehow.

If you want specific critique on your songs, just ask for it in communities such as this, or the edmproduction subreddit.

I can do you one better by quoting BLEACH of all things:

“The perfect being, huh? There is no such thing as perfect in this world. That may sound cliché, but it’s the truth. The average person admires perfection and seeks to obtain it. But, what’s the point of achieving perfection? There is none. Nothing. Not a single thing. I loathe perfection! If something is perfect, then there is nothing left. There is no room for imagination. No place left for a person to gain additional knowledge or abilities. Do you know what that means? For scientists such as ourselves, perfection only brings despair. It is our job to create things more wonderful than anything before them, but never to obtain perfection. A scientist must be a person who finds ecstasy while suffering from that antimony. In short, the moment that foolishness left your mouth and reached my ears, you had already lost. Of course, that’s assuming you are a scientist.” - Mayuri Kurotsuchi

seriously, a PERFECT album can be the worst thing to ever happen to a artist. Ask Nas or DJ Shadow.........or Michael Jackson.
