Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I wasn't the one to create the vocals, but I will see what I can tweak.

Also, thanks, but I don't think that I will be submitting an original. My only song that is nearly done doesn't quite fit the theme of the album.

I'm terribly sorry, but not using pony material includes vocal samples, and even with permission from the original artist, we can't take your remix if it still uses pony samples. We really can't.

I finally got around to submitting, but I'm not sure if the .flac file works.

Here's a very, very rough draft of my track. I know it's getting awfully close to the deadline and for that I apologize. I ended up throwing away a lot of what I had but I'm determined to finish this on time!

I tried a new (for me) kind of style with this. I have no idea if I was successful at all so feedback of any sort is appreciated. I'm mostly content with it but it still needs a LOT of polishing.

Specific things:
1. I think the beginning portion (roughly the first minute) may be too long, or is that just me?
2. What do you think of the percussion? I don't have as much experience writing for it.
3. The material I cut out would have began at around 2:18 so pretty much everything after that is completely new and highly questionable. Can any of it be salvaged?

Again, sorry for the lateness of this.

1:I thought the Beginning was perfect Timing-wise!
2:Percussion was good, I don't have very much experience with it either so I can't really give out hints on how they should have been and such. But it was pretty good!
3: Everything afterwards just gets better and better to an ultimate build-up! Then quiet and soft aftermath all the way to the end.

I thought the whole song was Excellent my Friend! And I'm quite sure it will most definitely get in on the Final Album! Good Luck and BROHOOF */)

@Callenby: I really like it! You have great progression. Can I ask what you used for the violin? It sounds great!

I think 2:20-3:03 can use some work. While the majority of the song has progression and movement, this part was a bit repetitive. I think maybe a violin solo can cut through? Maybe even a cello or bass to help add some space? Just some suggestions.

Speaking of low end, I think the percussion fit well in the mix for the most part, but it sounds a little muted. I think it could use a subtle boost in the 100Hz-300Hz range to add a little more thump, and perhaps you can scan the mid-high frequency range for a boost to it's clarity. Maybe even subtle compression? I use the word subtle because I'm know your not trying to make dub-step XD. Again, just some suggestions.

You got some great work here so far. Can't wait to hear the final result. If you need help mixing/mastering, feel free to ask me for help.

@Callenby: This is glorious! Everything is excellent, I have barely anything to comment, haha

A couple really minor things (which you can choose not to follow and submit and easily make it onto the album anyway), first of which is, what are you using for the violin? Either it's a ridiculously high-end plug-in, soundfont, or it's 100% legit violin playing. If it's the last, a touch of vibrato would be even more excellent. I took violin for a couple of years, and from my experience, vibrato, though pretty tough without a shoulder rest thing, helps a lot to keep closer to the tune..right now, it seems that playing a harmonica straight would be just as fine. I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, it doesn't to me, but yeah

Also, your percussion is really nice! I enjoyed that bit very much. From around 2:20-3:03, a timpani sound font thing, especially with drum rolls, would probably make this whole song sparkle. Also, maybe bring out the snare-sounding rhythm, or use a bigger-sounding snare, a la "Perth" by Bon Iver.

I don't know, I don't really have anything particularly useful to add at this point, other than best wishes and I hope that the judges like this as much as I did! :D

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. It really helps. And it's such a relief that you like it, considering how much I've been stressing about this.

To both Ghost and TATCM: I used Embertone's new Friedlander Violin (which I believe I mentioned it to you at some point, Ghost). It indeed is amazing. The best part is that for this song I used the 16-bit, low-RAM intensive patch with a minimum of fuss with the settings, and it still sounds authentic. I was iffy about the price tag at first but it was so worth it.

I'm at a composer symposium right now so I don't think I'll be able to upload another WIP and wait for more advice, but your suggestions should help me finish this with just enough time. Thanks again!

Hi,
Don't stress out, it's already pretty great!
I don't have anything more to add than what was already said, but know that it's not an issue if you're a little behind the deadline, especially once you've already gotten feedback and you know what can still be improved. We will get back to some musicians with suggestions for finishing touches, so the album won't come out next week, and we can always make modifications until release.

Alright, recorded a semi-improvisitional track (I had some melodies and played around them). Didn't want to perform another 10+ min one since those aren't so listenable.

Also, submitting with a mediafire link since I really don't like minus or box. Hope that's ok.

Minus and box are just so that they can listen to your track without having to download it iirc.

Good luck to everyone who's submitted! :D
