<WIP> <House> (Untitled house track)

Postby UltimateRiff » 06 Apr 2013 23:39

So, I'm taking part in the community house mix and I'd like some feedback on my track, (at least, what I have of it so far). I'd especially like to know how you guys think it sounds (mixing/mastering/etc.)

Here it is:

It could use a name as well, although I'll probably come up with something clever for it eventually...

Kick sounds really weak, I'd play with the pitch, compress it, and EQ a bit more mid into it. The clap also feels flimsy and really really flat, I'd definitely layer it with some other samples, and make sure you end up filling out both your low-mid and your high-mid. The hat sample is really generic, I'd just replace it and see what happens. The synth sounds overcompressed and could use some more high-mid.

That said, it's definitely got an interesting musical idea, I'd like to see where you end up taking it.

I can't feel my brain.

To me, it seems like the kick needs to be heavier. It's a little too weak right now. Also, the synth should have some more highs I think.
It sounds pretty good though! :D

I think the drums need to be heavier too. Less click and more thump for a house kick. Maybe a snare dropped in every now and then to accompany the clap?
I like it as a whole though, the synth lines are sounding pretty cool, maybe a lead playing a melody quietly in the background would be good though? just to full out the high end a little.
Sounding good, look forward to hearing where you take it.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I EQ'd the kick with more bass and mid, layered a few more claps, layered a few more synths into the synth line, and added a quick lead line, because I've had the lead sitting there doing nothing. I'll almost certainly change up the lead in the final product, I just put it in for feedback on the sound.

Okay, so I changed up the hats again, and added an actual lead line. I'll probably have a slightly different lead line, but it'll probably be similar to what I currently have. As usual, I'd like to know how well I mixed/mastered it.

Okay, so I changed out the clap and hi-hat samples, EQd a bit, and got rid of the drum intro. I'd like some critique, and then I'll arrange it into a longer version.

And yes, I will call it "Something Clever"

I don't know if that's what's happening, but it sounds like you're getting some clipping going on in that track.
Personally, I think the clap is almost too loud, but that's a personal preference; it doesn't interfere with anything.
The lead synth feels a bit harsh; try filtering it or EQ'ing to cut down on the really high frequencies.

Aside from that, it sounds pretty good! Post the full song when it's done, please!
Check out my Soundcloud and give me some feedback on my music! Please and thank you!

<WIP> <House> Something Clever

Postby UltimateRiff » 05 Jul 2013 22:57

It's quite possible that it's clipping, although I think I'll fix it after I arrange it.

And hopefully it'll get on the sequel to this album, and even if it doesn't, I'll put it on my SoundCloud and/or YouTube.

So, I've started rearranging it, and I'd like some feedback before I send it in, which will probably be in a few hours. I've sent it in for the contest. Feedback is still appreciated though.

Hey, sorry for triple-posting, but I've gotten more time to work on my track, and I've started entirely reworking and rearranging it. Here it is:

Feedback would be greatly appreciated!
