The Lesser Knowns Volume 4

For those who don't like to read walls of text:

The Lesser Knowns (TLK) is an album series that is designed to feature the work of musicians who might not be popular together, making a larger album of tracks that give a small taste of the works of each artist, so our audience can expand their list of musicians to follow.

As such, it is encouraged that you make a track that best exemplifies your work, but you can technically make anything you want.

All you have to do to get on the album is to send in a WIP (Work in progress) by July 20th, then a complete track by August 1st. Look at what people have to say about your WIP and complete versions, and make make any changes you want before the album releases on August 10th.

That is all that is really required of you. Everything else is completely optional, but highly encouraged.

For those who like tons of information:

It’s about time for another rousing round of The Lesser Knowns!

TLK4 is going to be a continuation of the efforts of the last few TLK albums. These prior albums and any information related to them can be found on the TLK bandcamp:
http://thelesserknowns.bandcamp.com/

Donations, as with all TLK albums thus far, will be given to the ‘Your Siblings’ charity.

We are now throwing out all the artist requirements from past TLKs, since I think they were unnecessary and stupid. Any artist can participate, even if they have already been a part of previous Lesser Knowns albums. No matter who you are, go ahead and submit something great! (Though your track can still be kept off the album release if it is not of good quality, or is offensive in some way.)

As such, the album will be divided into parts, like TLK2 was, should there be a large enough group involved.

Artists that were involved in past TLKs are welcome to return!

There are no requirements on the tracks you create. Remixes or covers are fine. Collaborative tracks are encouraged. The tracks can be Pony, non-pony, or even Spongebob Squarepants related. And reasonable length is accepted, any genre is accepted and as long as it doesn't sound like complete shit, chances are that it'll make it in.

The Google Doc:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fMc ... vWUk/edit#

To Participate:

Entrants do not need to sign up anywhere. All you need to do for this is to send WIPs or tracks in on or before the assigned dates in the schedule. Just do everything by the assigned dates, and your tracks should be good to go for the album.

If you would like to recieve alerts to remind you of the dates 10 days in advance of deadlines by E-mail, MyLittleRemix.com private message, Skype, or any other means, just send me a message over any of the above means with the method you'd like to be contacted by, and I'd be happy to oblige. Otherwise, unlike the last few albums, you won't be sent reminders as such, and if you miss a deadline, you will lose your place on the album.

At some point, you might also want to send me what artist name you would like to be credited with upon the album’s release. If you do not, I will list your Artist name as whatever I can find, which may not necessarily be what you want.

Calendar of events:

July 20th: WIPs due!
If you are making a track for this album, we will expect you to post a work in progress on this date. Whether it is 15 seconds long, or almost fully completed does not matter, but you need to have posted one to be eligible for the Album's final release. To post one, you will need to send it to me, Belgerum, through any means necessary. I will then post your WIP on the google doc, where comments are enabled, so you can get some feedback from other artists, or anyone who wants to check it out. It is also recommended that before or after this date, you review the tracks of some other artists. This is not required, but it would help the album be of better quality.

August 1st: Semifinal Due date
The semifinals are very similar to a final deadline. When you submit a track for semifinals, you should be thinking you are about finished with it. THIS IS NOT JUST A SECOND WIP DATE. The purpose of this is to assign a deadline for some finalized tracks, so people can get advice and critiques on the completed form, so that the piece can be modified in any slight ways needed before the final publishing of the album. Originally, in past TLK albums, people got critiques on their tracks AFTER the final publishing, and then wanted to change them again. This will hopefully prevent that from happening again, and generally finalize the tracks better.

August 10th: Album Release
This is the big day the album will be released. It's a little more than one week after semifinals, so everyone should have had time to look over comments or critiques from semifinals and make some final edits, if needed. After this date, the album will be released to the public, and no more changes will be done to the tracks. After this, feel free to promote the album, and show the world some new Brony Artists!

Optional things that need to be done:

WE WILL NEED COVER ART. If you are a visual artist, or friends with one, we will need at least one cover for the album, and more if we get big enough to need splitting like the second volume. To submit artwork for consideration, just send it to me through any means you wish. You can also post it here on this thread, should you want feedback or such.

Cover art will be gathered and posted on the google doc as well, and about a week before the release of the album, we will have a vote on which one(s) will be used.

Even if you are not a part of TLK4, and you do not have a track to submit, you can still help out by reviewing the tracks of others! Many past TLK artists have posted things to these albums they aren't proud of anymore, so I'm placing a heavy emphasis on this now. PLEASE help review other tracks, so we get great quality music on TLK4.

Join the TLK Skype group! If you wanna join our little group and chat with some nice Brony artists, feel free to ask about the TLK Skype chat, and I'll be glad to let you in! This is also a great place to submit tracks for reviews or advice!

And of course, you can always help by promoting the **** out of the albums. Past albums, the new one coming out, whatever! If we can get more people to recognize us, we get more people listening the the great artists who are involved, and that's good!

I look forward to seeing whomever wants to participate, and whatever tracks they choose to submit. =)

I think I'll open up my sister's computer once more for this. However I have not purchased a real DAW so we'll see what I can do. Should I pirate?

edit:
Oh cool, maybe I'll participate. Just depends on some circumstances....

Bro, why are you asking that here, Bronies are Cool?

No, no one here is going to tell you to pirate.

That's something that you should be able to decide for yourself, no one here can honestly stop you, but no one here is going to encourage it either.

It's the forum rules.

Yay! This'll be my second time, and I'm open for collabs (something I've never done before. I use Logic Pro 9 and have only free plugins).

Maybe. TLK 3 didn't get me any extra subs/followers so I might pass on this one unless you guys are doing something different.

I'm in! I don't really care about whether this gets me subs/followers, I just want to make music and start making my contributions to stuff like this in the fandom. I am open to anyone wanting to collab, but I ain't gonna sing! I handle the backtracks/instrumental parts of the song! So, hit me up if you wanna collab!

Also, Skype works great, my username is Wanderpony
I love making music, but I don't have a genre I stick to. I just want to make music, so if you want to hit me up for a collab, go right ahead!

Welcome and good luck to all newcomers, and It's nice to see some new faces amongst familiar ones!

Mr. Bigglesworth wrote:Idk deadlines make me a sad panda.

I apologize about the two deadlines, but as with all other album compilations, deadlines are necessary to be sure we get something published and aren't procrastinating forever.

I will merely say I agree with this sentiment. Otherwise, I'm sure there are plenty of other threads for this discussion.

I've given contact requests to both of you, and can add you to the TLK Skype chat as soon as that is accepted. ANyone else who wishes to join, make a similar statement and I will do the same for you.

A WHOLE BUNCH of people wrote:I'm open for a collab!

I feel like I should organize something for people who want this, like a list or something of people who want to work with someone else. Ideas, or have you guys already gone and messaged each other and got stuff set?

Seems legit, I'll try to get something done. For srs this time - I admit I haven't progressed at all on my tracks for other compos >.>

I'd anyone cares, I'd love to collab with someone that likes punky guitary stuff. I play guitar, bass, sing like crap and hope to get a demo done by myself, to work over that perhaps.

@Bronies are cool: LMMS is a pretty real, free DAW, as far as I'm aware. :P The interface is ugly, but that shouldn't be a problem if you know what you're doing (by watching tutorials, if you're "a noob still"). The rest is decent samples, synths and your own skill c;

Totally understand your situation btw: I'd much rather spend my little budget in hardware, and just recently decided to get my software, samples etc. legally. I've found free stuff that's even better than the paid stuff I've used.
oops I dropped the bass

will you pick it up for me

@conch
I might look at that, but I already have learned the GUI for FLS and I know a few people who use fls that I can collab with (possibly) however, I might look at it later on in the future, but for now FL will satisfy me. I just need to learn more about what makes good sound, mixing, song progression, good intros, good resolutions, how to make different genres distinguishable in my music, how to make good growls, how to master well, how to use reverb well, what to do for a Klondike bar, and probably some more stuff
