Workin' on updating my style

It's been a while since I made any dub/brostep, and I've decided to start updating my style, mainly in the growl/wobble department.

Also, this was made entirely with free VST's.

The wobble sounds like a mix of angry bees and a chainsaw. The hats sounds like a machinegun without any swing.

From this short clip, there isnt much to tell, but from this short clip, I didn't really like it. I don't understand what you were going for.

lol Thanks for the feedback!! Truthfully, I was really just aiming to make my wobble sound a bit more violent. The beat was added on to make it sound like there...well...was a beat XD. Thanks anyway! I'll work on it!

Being perfectly honest, I don't like it at all. It grates on my ears and is actually painful to listen to. If you were to improve it, I'd suggest making it clearer and turning it down a big volume-wise, maybe use a compressor on it with some input gain to bring it back up a bit. I second Eery in that I'm really not sure what you're trying to do. I won't comment on the drums, 'cause, as you mentioned, they're placeholders.

It sounds really muddy and like you just placed down wubs at seemingly random, there's no change, it's repetitive, never actually changes notes, and just overall yucky and ugly to listen to. Remove a lot of the distortion on the synths. Distortion is great, but too much is bad. Change up the rhythm some so that each pattern is interesting to listen to. That doesn't mean add in an extra note on one of the synths, that means, change notes, the pattern and speeds that it wubs in, etc. That's all the critique I have for now. shouldn't this be in the music subforum?

Thanks, everyone! I'm just trying to get my technique for my wub's sound right. I know it isn't that good yet, and, in answer to what I'm trying to do, listen to some Knife Party.

I think something much "cleaner" would sound a lot better. The current sound is kind of hard to listen to and not something that I would find catchy.
I think it would be nice to also introduce some other sounds to your style, as well. If you just keep using the same wub over and over, people will eventually get bored. When you listen to Knife Party, notice that they use multiple kinds of wubs in their songs; some have vowel sounds and some are just nice clear wubs. Gritty wubs can sound good, but they have to be used in the right way.

Honestly, the older one was easier to listen to. The newer sounds all over the place and never really changes. It's very muddy, so you should EQ it pretty heavily and lower the volume, because it's REALLY overpowering your drums. The notes you've picked don't fit together either, and it's a bit of a mess. Finally, as Wisp said, you need to use more types of bass and not just stick with the same thing throughout.
You'll get better with more practice though, so keep at it and you'll eventually get what you want it to sound like

It literally sounds like you went "aaaaaahh" into a microphone and added a bitcrusher or hardclipper. Also, what is up with 0.05? It just appears out of random and doesn't really fit in, and it really sounds like you randomly placed down the melody. The whole thing is just a disarray and doesn't sound organized or anything.

First off: I eventually gave up on free vst's only, so the wubbing was done with Sylenth1
Second:I'm not actually working on a song, just trying to get the Skrillex/Knife Party growling sound
Third: Maybe I should stick to my EDM and Acid House XD

If you want to get a Skrillexy or Knife Partyish growl, you can find a million tutorials on how to do so with Massive or FM8 on youtube. Then you can really just work on composition, although I can't say that your song will sound "unique" if you use a growl from a producer that's most likely been used hundreds of times by other producers. Give it a try though.

My issue is that I don't have the money for Massive or FM8. The only reason I have Sylenth is because my friend(who gave up making music, even though I thought he was awesome) Gave me it instead of deleting it.

I've checked that one out, actually. THe issue is, every time I try to watch it, my browser (I've tried all 3 major ones) crashes.

Also, I know they're called wobbles, I just thought more people would understand if I called it a wub.

I see how thiat could be misunderstood, sorry.

I also got around the crash by watching the tutorial on my friend's phone. It made me feel like an idiot for not being able to figure that out.
