i've actually seen that before, but regardless of it, I still like to think of them as closer to maybe 20. (i don't care if Digibrony is more accurate, i just want to believe that they are like 20, okay?!?! :3) But.... since this is a cartoon, really anything can happen, so I could be right too.

I think this could be good. As long as they don't run a separate series on it.
But yeah, FiM has needed a shake-up for the past year, and I don't think the alicorn thing was going to cut it.

That's one of my main problems with it. Twilight was already apparently at university or grad school or something in the show, so it makes no sense that she is now going to high school.

I'd say comparisons to grad school aren't very appropriate, given the format of pony education. Journeyman (journeymare?) or even master might be more appropriate descriptions of her education level, since higher education in Equestria is typically more focused, given that ponies are aware of their area of expertise by the end of puberty.

tbh, I don't like the whole concept of this new show. It's, in my opinion, a try-hard move to get more people into watching MLP-related stuff when they already have a massive following.

Alternate reality? Nope, didn't catch my attention... neither did the character style that's just- Ok, I'll stop here to not fire up yet another argument.

Well Digibrony is wrong, because the mane 6 have the same body shape as everyother pony, like Mayor Mare, not a teen body shape or anything, and actual teen ponies are seen in other episodes.

Well, the same as all of the young adult ponies. Truth be told, we don't know how much body shape tells us about age in the show. Digibrony glosses over that bit because really it's not that informative, since the ponies in the show could physically mature faster than humans, but mentally mature at around the same rate.

And there's not really a right or wrong in this case. The mane 6 are of an age where it is appropriate for them to own their own business and attend higher education in Equestrian society, but they mentally resemble much younger humans. That doesn't really exist as a demographic in our society, so speculation about age is essentially doomed to failure. And yet it's telling Twilight transforms into a human teenager in EQG.

I had a thought yesterday. So, Twilight passes into an alternate dimension: ours.
There are two options here: first, we can interpret the "Earth" in EqG as a fictional one, on the same 'level of realness' as Equestria itself - a constructed representation of our own reality. The other option is that we can view the world of EqG as - although, of course, still fictional - a level of fiction above that of MLP:FiM. It seems like an arbitrary, academic distinction. The one difference that matters though, is this: does the fictional cartoon show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic exist in the human world of EqG? Does EqG take place in a world in which people are aware of Equestria and see it as something thought up by a human one day and made into a cartoon?
If so, the repurcussions are pretty astounding. The fact that Twilight could pass from a world that was thought fictional into the previously thought 'real' world suggests that the concept of 'fiction', in the MLP/EqG multiverse, is less a boundary between the real and the unreal, and more the boundary between different dimensions. Or, to use some pseudoscience, the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics is true, and there are many, many universes, some with talking horses, some with talking humans, some with neither -- and, for each fictional story you can come up with, a dimension in which it happens. And, in the multiverse the show takes place in, a way for things to move from one reality to another.
My point: the Mane 6 are eldritch abominations with the ability to enter our realm as humans, Twilight is Nyarlathotep and Cupcakes is canon.

1. How will she go back to her own dimension? Will it be yet another mirror that's more or less similar?

2. Assuming there're virtually infinite universes, what could in vice versa? What if human Twilight went through a mirror and came to a pony universe where Twilight was never born?
