Thorinair wrote:Personally, this makes me very, VERY sad. Most of my trance tracks are inspired by ponies and have a few vocal samples in them. What I cannot understand is why would you get rid of pony inspired tracks. As many have already said, look at the "New Lunar Republic" and such legendary tracks. Would you get rid of those as well? That said, I bet that my music wont ever be posted on EqD again. This makes me very sad. Here is my latest track (and it was still not posted on EqD, so w/e http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2uU8Vp2hC0 ). Does this mean I can safely quit making music? I mean, if I am my only listener, what's the point in it?
Sad...

First of all, just because a song isn't pony doesn't automatically make it not worth creating. I don't know why you think that.

Second, if your tracks are being rejected, there's still other revenues to get attention. Soundcloud for one. You do have over a hundred subscribers. So it's not just you. Attention doesn't happen immediately for everything. There are plenty of trance forums as well, I'm sure.

You have some sweet tracks, I don't know why you would stop just because you can't get a feature on EqD. That site will only get you a few thousand hits.

Ok, first of all, I want to make pony songs because I love MLP, this means I will keep making PONY tracks, nothing else.

Secondly, Soundcloud seems really weak to me, almost nopony uses it... and those who do, how would they even know I exist? And trance forums... think they would appreciate pony-only music?

And about getting a feature on EqD, my previous tracks (Flutterdream and A Rare Gem), which sucked compared to Hypersonic and Spark of Magic, got posted literally the same day, while I had to wait a week for the new ones. Maaaaaybe the quality check might help there.... :P

Try and submit future tracks anyway and if you're not happy with the feedback, post it somewhere that the issue can be debated.

If this doesn't work you will not be the only one wanting change.

Just because you do instrumentals doesn't mean you won't get posted. If the song is obviously inspired by the show and not just a label slapped onto a song, then the prelisteners will pick up on that and let you get posted.

Popular definition of a remix:

A track that uses sound material from a specific other track to the point that it can't be called an original track anymore.

You can call something a remix when:
- Same melody/theme is used or samples of the melody/theme is mixed to form a varation on the old melody, and it's still noticably close to the original.
- The same lyrics/vocals are used in a significant part of the track (so not just 1 or 2 seconds).

If somepony sings anypony else's song, it's a cover. If the same producer makes a new (improved) version of his own track, it's a remastered edit/version. If somepony makes a track that features a collection of other tracks significantly, it's called a medley or sound collage. If somepony rewrites a track so it can be performed live, it's an assemblage.

Haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if I'm kicking dead horses here, but I thought it's important to know the difference between... those ^^^

EDIT: Also, Seth, you got mail. :)

I'm going to add a few more. If you guys are interested, toss an email to [email protected], preferably with an example of your best work!

I'm just running off a gtalk list right now, so for the time being gtalk is required.

Do you have to be online on GMail ALL THE TIME? Because, ya know, I only use the google account I signed up with to check my mail about once a day. I have 2 other Google accounts but they end in my domain ([email protected]) so I can't have gmail on those.

And you can't be logged in on 2 Google accounts at the same time... what do? :(

I think I might start dragging you guys into the pre-reader irc, I'll have to see what they think. Otherwise the load isn't too bad anyway. We only got two questionable songs today.

I wouldn't mind being available for pre-listening, only:

1) I'm not always at my computer, during my daylight (Australia) so won't be at your beck and call,
2) I regularly study music, so I'm very good for giving feedback for instrumental/classical pieces, but I wouldn't have much of a clue with feedback for electronic pieces...which I'm guessing are more common...
3) Skyward Sword came out today...

This is me. Except Skyward sword (I actually don't play video games (the horror, THE HORROR)).

I'm new to this scene (pony wise), but I'd love to get on to the pre-listener list because of all the exposure I'd get to people like me, and I'm always looking for new stuff.

Mind you, my best work is...well... not pony. Is that bad?

Hey, i was sorta wondering why this track never got featured.

As an avid listener of chill music, i consider this to be some pretty high quality music, the thought that more good chill music like this could be getting rejected has sorta been bothering me for a while now. =/

It's in no way pony related, perhaps?

Then they're being inconsistent because plenty of other original instrumental pieces have been getting accepted.

I think it's mainly because it doesn't give an image of "Griffon Wings" it sounds nice enough, but it doesn't give the image that's implied by the title...if it was named, I dunno "Rainbow takes a Futuristic Bike Ride" (please don't call anything that), it'd probably have a better chance of getting on!
I hope that helps, I think the prelisteners should really give feedback so things like this don't get so mixed up...

This.

When my piece was sent to the moon, I had no reply as to why it was. Now I know that Seth and the others have their work cut out for him running EqD and can't reply to everything, but now that we have (or are going to have) prelisteners, feedback really should be provided. Even if it is only one or two sentences.

That's what THIS WHOLE TOPIC IS ABOUT. Seth doesn't want stuff anymore that isn't pony-related enough. Just because he has accepted it in the past doesn't mean he has to do it now. Especially when the community is growing, getting more strict with what content you take isn't really a bad thing at all. :/

Personally, I still don't think it is a good idea. Me and I am sure there are others out there, love tracks that are made by the community that aren't that pony related as well. Hell, I love the non-related tracks even more than remixes of, let's say, some song from the show. Music tastes are different from person to person. I don't think the ones who like this kind of stuff should be left hanging...

It's a PONY NEWS SITE, so why post news that ain't pony related?

Heck, I really liked this year's Qlimax anthem, but does that mean EqD has to post it? Many people just use pony backgrounds and titles on their videos, because they want the massive viewer input from EqD's watchers, even while their tracks have no relation to the pony fandom whatsoever.
