214 Drum Machines, all samples, free

214 separate machines, the OP collected them over a long period of time from various places, the result being this legacy collection. Downloads still work, but someone may want to rehost the whole thing as a ZIP someplace just in case!

Oh man.
I might have to add this to my collection.
I luv me some drum samples.
Everytime I get a new set, it's like someone hands me a new toy
I better download this quick, though, I feel like actually making something with these today.

No such thing. I've had at least 4 different 808 packs on my computer at one point.

You've also been producing for far longer than I have I assume.

But either way that's way more than I (probably) will ever have.

I really want to spice up my percussion with something more interesting (like anvils, metallic clangs, or something like that). Anyone know where I can find a bunch of those?

Okay, So I'm still really new to the whole concept of a DAW. How do I install these?

You don't, you load them in as samples. Save the files somewhere, go into your DAW, and look up a tutorial for how to load samples into whatever DAW you're using.

It's usually as simple as dragging and dropping them into the Arrange window. Why do this instead of using a sequencer? Lots of reasons. You can edit things on a per sample basis, you get a fine degree of control, you don't need to memorize what MIDI note triggers what sample, you can add effects directly onto the sample without having to route each channel of your drum sequencer through an external bus.

But you can use something like Battery I guess, if you need to. :P

While using samples directly in arrangment has it's pluses, I personally use ableton's drum rack drum sequencer, which I think has more advantages.

*First of all, It's minimalistic:You don't have to spend a whole audio track on a single sample, and instead, you can spend one midi note.

*You don't have to limit your processing either: You can layer samples, and process them individually, with no limit on how many samples at once, or in what order you will process them.

*You can assign return/send busses to add the amount of reverb individually to each sample.

*It's interface is well designed to work within ableton, allowing drag 'n' drop of samples in your folders to which you have listened one second ago within ableton itself.

*If you still need to process a single instance of a sample in a way that drum rack doesn't allow, you can add one audio track and end up with two, instead of ten, keeping your project still cleaner than with one audio track per sample

Still, in the end the output is important, so whatever works for you, works for you.

Too bad I have Ableton Live Lite (which does not have drum racks). :(
