Might I recommend using more....unsavory tactics for acquiring a copy of FL Studio (arrr)? AFAIK, it's generally swept under the rug, and most make the commitment to buy the software for real if they actually make revenue from their music. It's just a suggestion; I have good friends who have done it. The software is SO expensive, and college kids have to eat, right? Up to you :)

Even if you decide to wait until you can actually purchase it, there will be someone on this forum that uses whatever DAW you use, and they could point you to a plethora of resources regarding its use, up to and including their own expertise. I hope you find what you're looking for, and again, welcome to the community :)

Glad to be on board, H8_Seed. =D

And, I've thought about it, but I can wait another month or so while I kinda get the hang of it on the demo version. For now, I'll stick with where I'm at right now.
And yea, it's good to hear that there are a lot of helpful people around here. ^_^
Thank you very much for the warm welcome!

Hey there everypony!

My name is 3ight8it... a brony that likes making music and whatnot. I was inspired to make music by a group of people when I became a brony 3 months ago (including AlexS, Omnipony, PinkiePieSwear, KeepOnRockin', General Mumble, Taps, and of course WoodenToaster) and since then I have stumbled upon some other brony musicians like Jackle... even though his tumblr scares me.

My ACTUAL name is Mason, a guy who is in college learning programming and likes video games and stuff. I have been wondering lately what people refer to when they say Toastbeard, and upon a long chat with omni on skype, I was brought here!

So as I mentioned before, I started making music a little bit ago. In all reality I didn't listen to too much techno or dubstep or any electronic genres before I became a brony and was introduced to this fandom's music. With that being said, I basically fell in love with it and wanted to try to make it on my own. I downloaded FL Studio and started to work. That was two months ago, and I like to think I have come a long way from not having composed or even really listened to techno before (but of course I still have quite a way to go). And now being here I think I will be challenging myself to keep up with toastbeards and such, making myself work in order to get better at what I like to do.

Sorry for the giant intro post. I tend to go overboard. Just a bit.

Um, hi! My name is Benjamin. My older screen name is LintphishX but I generally go by Green Flying Fish now days, due to it making more sense... and people can actually pronounce it when they read it and spell it when they hear it. XD

I've been doing music videos for each of the mane cast and will post that in the right thread... I mean if that's ok...

I think the best pony... if it's ok with you... is... Fluttershy

But the pony I am most like is Pinkie Pie!

p.s. I hope you can put up with my style, I have a lot of different approaches to this thing called music. ;)

Hello!

I've been observing this site from afar for a few weeks now, and have decided to join.

I'm a guitarist, mainly, and I tend to write pretty much every genre with the instrument. Acoustic, blues, hard rock, 80's rock, and medieval ballad thingies ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu1XHS_kiJo ). I also play clarinet, but I've yet to use it outside of school band.

In terms of gear, I record in Cakewalk Music Creator 5 (I guess that's what my DAW would be? No idea what a DAW is... :P ), and I have four guitars: a cheapo Strat copy, an Alvarez 6 string acoustic, an Ovation Elite 12 string acoustic, and some random Ibanez starter bass.

Twilight Sparkle is best pony. :)

Postby Raia-Jicin » 22 Nov 2011 17:19

Oh well, here we go..

Hello Everypony! I finally hopped into the chat tonight and since the reception there was quite nice.. I guess it won't hurt to introduce myself here :)

I've been following the whole "pony phenomenom" since about March or April, and really enjoy all the amazing creative output this community is producing. And actually, this made me want to contribute..

I've been "making" music for roughly twenty years now, but do not consider myself as particularly good (at least not even half as good as the number would suggest). I've played and sung in a few small bands, had several solo performances on various concerts (the biggest one had about 1000 listeners and most were much, much smaller) and actually mostly make music by myself, just because I liked it. I simply play piano or guitar, and sing to it. I've not done any concerts for years at this point, simply because I never had the time to commit to a band or a project beside university. But frankly, I finally want to get something done again.

So what am I looking for? Well, on the one hoof I'm looking for people that can help me with the whole "producing music" stuff, which is a bit overwhelming to me right now... "Just" getting a good acoustic guitar sound recorded, working with a drum machine, and maybe getting a decent sounding bass line would be awesome for a start. Making orchestral scores always intrigued me, but I wouldn't know how to start. On the other hoof I just love meeting interesting people, and anything beyond that will most certainly just happen to happen ;) If it comes to that, I'd definitely love to do some collab work.

Looking at the equipment side, I got an Audiofire Interface, an "ok" condenser mic, several guitars (electric and acoustic) and an old keyboard. So far I've been using Reaper as a DAW, since I didn't want to drop several hundred Euros on something to later find out that it's been the wrong program.

Aside from all the music stuff, I got a Diploma in Psychology (pretty much equals a Master of Science) and am currently becoming a Psychotherapist. This gobbles up most of my time and money right now, but since that's not subject to change any time soon, I don't plan to let it keep me from making music..

Gosh. Now that become quite a post I reckon..

Since pretty much the first thing I was asked for in the chat was a sample, I'm just gonna throw the Youtube link in here.. I really hope that's ok. Actually, I think it's kinda subpar, but at least it's something to show (and don't artists just always complain about any recording being subpar?)

but seriously i love a good long read in the bath. I find it fascinating that you've been making music for twenty years, but your No Fear Song cover is the first thing you've ever recorded. I'm glad ponies are motivating you to record things! Now record more things, because your singing is quite nice and I want to hear you do some guitar solos. MLR desperately needs guitar solo transplants. Tarby is amazing, but his liver is going to give out if he doesn't get backup soon k yeah sweet~

Hello, everypony! =]
I found this place while browsing Ponibooru, and I'm glad there's a place for music bronies to chat.

I'm a Music Composition, Percussion Performance, and Computer Science major in college, and still able to enjoy my life, haha. I have yet to meet another music major brony, but I don't think I'll have a problem finding one here. But yeah, been doing this whole music thing my whole life.

Of course, I write music. I can write for anything style/genre, but I mostly write classical music and dubstep. I've used FL Studio for many years back since middle school haha, but now I've been using Reason for about 2 to 3 years. I may give Ableton a try sometime in the future.

Definitely can't wait to hear the stuff you guys post here, get some feedback on my stuff, and talk the musics with you guys. Also wouldn't mind helping other people out if they need it. =]

Some things about me:
DAW - Ableton Live 8 and FL Studio
VSTs - Massive and Ohmicide

Hello ^.^, Call me Nix, I'm just the totally normal person, who started making music 3 weeks ago.

I'm learning computer science in UK, and otherwise have quite a-bit of free time to work with tunes.

DAW: FL 10
VSTs I use: Sylenth1, Ohmicide, Massive, Zebra2/3, Z3ta, Quadrafuzz, and lots more that I can't remember

I normally do either Hardstyle or Techno, but still a newb, so it might take me a while to learn everything.

Thats pretty much it, hope i can blend in -Nix

Oh I guess I could post here. I've been in the irc channel for a few months now, so I'm familiar with most of you.
I'm a college student in Canada majoring in business. The only experience with music I have is from playing alto saxophone for a few years back in elementary and high school.

I started using FL about a six months ago, but was never really too committed to it, but recently I've been working on it a lot more.
I use FL 10 and tend to make dark oriented stuff. I haven't really discovered what genre I'm going to focus on yet, but with the song I'm currently working on (almost done) it may be breakbeat.
