Hello and this is my music!

Postby Tsyolin » 08 Nov 2011 17:35

Hello every musical brony! I have just joined the forums by recommendation of makkon... seeing as he runs the place I can see why. Anyways, I have just started to getting into pony music myself and I look forward to doing a lot more. I tend to stay withing the grounds of orchestral music.

These are my first three songs, all of which were written by Duane Decker. This is basically my way of getting used to the software as well getting it out there that I have the ability to make something with the right resources. I probably won't arrange his music very often if at all, the people knew I took his music an applauded me for it, which I did not expect at all. To me it's kind of cheating and I fell guilty for it, but I'm not really good at writing music right now. Hopefully that will change in the near future, but for now I'm gonna take what I can get. Here are my first three works, those who have played Rise of Nations may recognize these tunes.

Thoughts?

Decide: Are they your songs, or Dua ne Decker's songs?

That is pretty nice
Did you copy the sheets, or did you make them by ear? and what is your musical background? :)

Welcome to the forum btw! ^^

They are Decker's songs, I can't take credit for it if I did not write it. I arranged it is all, I want to get out of arranging and get more original.

As for how I did the music. I did it completely by ear, his music is not well known so there are no sheets for it. As far as musical background goes...

*I am a trained concert percussionist and can play every percussion instrument effectively except the snare drum and toms.
*I do a bit of piano playing here and there but I wouldn't say I'm fantastic at it, just good.
*I sing as well, Bass 2. Can't get much more manly...
*I played piano in Jazz Band, probably the most fun I have ever had.
*My musical taste lies mainly in Classic Rock, particularly 60's and 70's, with Orchestral and traces of Techno. However, half of the Techno I like is pony techno.

Duane Decker Series

Postby Tsyolin » 08 Nov 2011 22:12

Sorry for the repost but I incorrectly posted these songs earlier in the wrong section. Anyways, I call it the Duane Decker series because he wrote all of the songs, I only arranged them is all. These are my first works and were really only a way for me to get used to FL Studio, hopefully I'll start writing soon.

Thoughts?

Hey bro! I went ahead and moved your topic and merged your posts (now making it totally repetitive, but I'm delirious and sick so I couldn't think of a better solution).

Welcome to MLR! Is that Symphobia I hear? Those flute patches sound familiar.

To be quite frank, it's difficult to give thoughts on these, because they're arrangments of existing pieces that have been taken out of context.

Don't get me wrong, I do that all the time! My arrangments are so far out of context sometimes, it's just crazy!

But, I feel that I need to hear an original in order to give solid feedback, as although these are nice, they have the original weighing them down...

Hope to hear an original soon!

You are correct, I use a lot of ProjectSam libraries, I like them a lot.

Well I'm not really worried about it frankly, these first three really don't count since they sound "A LOT" like the originals.

That you probably have a good ear if they are made by ear. Depending on how accurate they are because i havent heard the originals, though they sound nice so i think they are.

Ii looked up Duane Decker on youtube and only found two thingies (i think albums?)
Rise of Nations and Defense Grid
not really impressed as i was waiting for something more like the songs you posted and the sound quality wasnt that good. I wonder if he has better stuff.

Anyways, this looks like a good idea to get to know how to work with the sequencer.

If i were you i would start making original stuff ^^
