<Pony><Original><Orchestral> Genesis

So, I made this track for last week's ZIQ, but never actually got to upload it to soundcloud. I truly apologize if the audio quality sounds like shit, and there's a crapton of crackling/clipping. That's just MusicStudio bungling up the export. I did intend this to be orchestral, and it does use (mostly >_>) orchestral instrumentation, however it turned out sort of... genre-less. I also didn't use nearly as much of the winds as I wanted to, but the piece is pretty much based on orchestral percussion in the first place. Does anyone have any critique? I definitely could use some, especially as I'm listening through crappy headphones, on my iPad, and without hearing any of the panning because I'm deaf in one ear ._.

However, despite its faults, I am pretty proud of this, seeing as it's pretty much my first full original piece :P

Wait, are you actually deaf in one ear? Man, would that suck.

Anyways.
Well, as of now, it sounds a bit "midi", e.g., it suffers in terms of authenticity of the instruments. Not much expression is being employed, though the musical idea is laid out pretty nice. A reverie, this is, but one that could benefit from more precise articulation, and generally more expression. More automation, CC's (I think), and make imperfections for humanization. The instruments just aren't convincing me.

The song is nice, the sound is meh. That much I can say.

I suffer in terms of mixing and whatnot, so you might want to look for someone else for that. Also, I don't have my good (read: pretty nasty imbalanced) phones with me :P
So I can't really give advice on that right now...
I'm always half-asleep, and I hate dubstep.
Also, you know that other, way more awesome Nomnom guy who shows up on EQD sometimes? THAT PERSON IS NOT ME.
We just happen to have similar pseudonyms.

Heheh. Thanks. I agree wholeheartedly on the 'midi' sound, but that's pretty much the most I can muster up with my iPad. I mean, until I'm able to spend $50 on Auria, MusicStudio is the best I've got, and I'm still trying to learn it's quirks. But honestly, that's just how it sounds @_@

At some point, when I have the means available to me, I'll redo this and actually give it the treatment it deserves, but for now, this is the best I can do. :/

Considering that it was made on an iPad, I'd say that this was done pretty well. Lots of really nice instrumentation. Clearly defined sections, I'd say this would easily fit into a score for a vidja game.
