So, I made this a while ago but only just now was able to upload it. If it sounds like crap, it's probably because I basically didn't mix or master it at all, just doing a little bit of stuff while I created it. I do have sheet music, if by some miracle anyone wants it, but the formatting of it kind of sucks due to it being forced into 2 bars per line.

Not bad, but personally I think you should share the lead with other instruments instead of the violins playing it throughout the entire song. By that I mean having violin play, "First we throught that Babs..." then have the viola play, "But then we found the truth..." It'll have a better flow.
Also try messing around and branching a bit for Violin 2 and Cello for a better accompany feel. It sounds weird that everyone's playing the exact same thing. Kind of like having 4 people whistle the lead of a song instead of 4 people whistling the entire song.

I'm no good when it comes to mixing/mastering so yeah, have violin 1/viola share the lead a bit and violin 2/cello play as if it's a perfectly done background track that doesn't need to completely follow the original source. Like it thus far. If I was still in a quartet, I'd ask for sheet music and we play it but sadly, no ._.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I tried to keep a decent balance for the different instruments, to avoid the Pachelbel's Canon effect (ie. Cello gets no fun ever, or one instrument always gets the same sucky part), but I definitely need to work on that. I do sort of still have the mental block of grouping Violins I+II and Violas + Cellos, but I jut need to try to experiment a bit more. Still, for not knowing a thing about strings, I would say it came out pretty well. I'll keep working though.

Sounds OK so far, in my opinion. I'm no avid listener of orchestral/string quartet music, so feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but I don't like how the same instruments are playing the whole song. You may want to get rid of that volume spike around 0:25 and again at 0:50 and 1:07. I kinda see what (I think) you were going for but it doesn't really work in this situation. I agree with what MRPP said,

Also, parts of the chorus sound off-key to me, specifically "gotta hide we gotta bail".

Thanks! Although, I must admit, I really don't quite get what you mean here. I can't really have other instruments playing the song when there's only 4 instruments, and that's the point of the arrangement. Care to clarify what you mean? I'm probably just being really obtuse.

Yeah, I didn't really notice that the accents were that pronounced. I figure that if I just take out the accent, the crescendo won't sound so out of place.

Well, that's mostly just the nature of the song and chromatics. In it's original setting, the chromatics didn't sound so out of place, but it sounds out of key when transferred to a different instrument. I can't really fix that without changing the actual melody of the song significantly.

I'm not actually sure what I meant there either, to be honest. I guess I didn't make the connection that a 'string quartet' would only have 4 instruments :)

Perhaps I just don't like quartets

Heh. No problem. I'm sort of doing it as a sort of challenge to myself, because I know nothing about strings, personally, but I know a lot about pretty much every other orchestral group.

I have no idea what I am talking about when it comes to anything orchestra related, but I can say that it needs to be mixed/mastered/the volumes need to be fixed. But for a string cover Babs Seed, it sounds pretty decent!
My goal is to be capable of making any kind of music that strikes my fancy, and do it well.

It has really good potential, and I really like the idea. I'd like to take a look at the sheet music and do my own remix, if you don't mind sharing. (I'm pretty good with musical form and orchestration, but my ear training sucks.)

Alright, crappy sheet music ahoy!

To be honest, I'm not even that sure that it's playable. Anyways, I'm probably going to redo this once I get FL Studio for the iPad. At least it'll be all mixed and mastered and all that. I'm definitely going to remove the accents at 14, to prevent volume issues.
