<wip>Untitled track, looking for feedback

Postby Nine Volt » 23 Dec 2012 20:30

Hey hey hey guys, I'm back with a brand new track. Or rather a WIP, actually.

So basically this is a track I've been working on for a week or two, I've been having some fun with it. Not really sure what genre it is (if it even fits into one), so if someone could maybe tell me that'd be cool.

This is actually the 2nd version of this song that I've put up for feedback. Amongst feedback I got was that the kick was a bit too loud in the intro and that the bassline/lead thing overpowered the rest of the track in the 'drop' section. I've tried to correct both of those issues via volume automation, I think it's sorted out now.

So yes, any feedback you guys have on this track would be much appreciated :)
(and please, please do not just say 'decent track' or something like that)

My tentative title for this track is 'Geosynclinal' (it's actually a word, look it up)

This is a dropbox link

This is nice! The kick's nice and powerful and I'm digging that sidechain. It's got a quirky vibe to it that I really love. I can hear elements of house and electronica, but i can't really put my finger on a specific genre (Honestly that doesn't really matter though). From what I'm hearing, It's mixed really well and just sounds like a fun tune. I'm curious as to why it's named after a depression of sedimentary and volcanic accumulations XD

Haha, thanks man!

When I went to making this track I decided to do something different, you know? Something more unique than the stuff I usually make

I have no idea why I named it that, to be honest. I couldn't find a name I thought that suited it in my big Word document of names, so I just went to a random word generator and picked 'geosynclinal' because it sounded weird :)

The melody of the grunge synth at the start sounds incomplete and awkward, imo. At the parts where the second smoother synth and pad picks up is empty, feels like it needs some low end. Have you tried adding a subbass? If there already is one, then I think you should increase the volume of it. Either that, or it's just me :P

Also, your profile picture fits for this song. It looks like (Deadmau5?) is dancing along to it, lol

Hm, does the melody at the beginning sound incomplete and awkward throughout the whole song, or just in the intro?

I'll see about adding some more sub, I tried making it there but not overbearing or attention stealing

It's more noticeably awkward at the beginning, but less so after the first chorus part for the rest of the song.

Well if you've tried and you can't do so without making with overbearing, then I guess there won't be anything you could do the fix it, lol. But good luck fixing it, it's pretty good

Another side note, that Joel gif's dancing at the same tempo as the song. It had me smiling.

Well, I decided it's time to release this one. I'm trying to get over this problem I have where I let a song sit for longer than necessary. I realize letting it sit for a few days and then going back to it is good, but I had my remix of Tomb's Discord remix (remix of a remix) sitting, completed (and unmastered), for over a week.

So yeah, released :)
I named it Tether

I uploaded MP3 this time (320kps ofc), not sure how badly it destroyed the audio but soundcloud has wrecked it pretty bad );
