<Pony><Original>Origin of the Apple Family

Postby Pyro25100 » 26 Oct 2012 00:17

Ugh, had to deal with YouTube trying to say this video belonged to every Christmas video in existence. Filing a counter dispute is always a pain, especially when you're not even an adult in the eyes of the government.
Anyway, was watching Family Appreciation Day episode, and decided to make a song based on it.
So this was the result.

Hmm, an Applejack song with no traditional instruments.
Kinda weird. And a bit unfitting.

As a song by itself with no pretence of Applejack, it's kinda generic. And repetitive. And repetitive. And repetitive.

And a bit out of rythym.
And out of key at some points, like if a rave hoover was turned into a lead.
Samey chord progression throughout.
No low end.
Drums are ok, I guess. You kinda have one kick in it for the most part. And a crash.
Moar Eurodance 2010.

Well, not strictly Applejack, but alright then. Anyway, I noticed the second I started it that once I released it, I would have someone mention that it's generic and unfitting. Honestly, this is my first real attempt at something Trance-y. Not to mention, in total, I've been making music for roughly 11 months now. So I do apologize if it's not really up to the standards of better musicians. Then again, I don't try to be like them to begin with. And I really have no clue how to make trance... not repetitive. I've never been one to look up tutorials, but I suppose it'd be worth the time to learn. I'm just experimenting, so I do so apologize for this atrocity.

It's not really so you can be like anyone else, it's simply a way to be objectively better, to have the sound come out as a deliberate representation of what you want to make. The thing is, Nexus itself is often the problem, since it's mostly a collection of presets. It's one of those plugins you have to be careful with, make sure you're doing enough to keep the sound from stagnating into 80's cheese. I mean, I've been producing for about as long as you, (been playing music for about 7 years, though) and I know that any genre can take classic elements and throw in a new take on it. What you gotta think about is the hook, what reels people into your song? What's the something special?
For example:
You can chuck in some arps.
Or throw in a little variation, maybe a melody
Yes, you can have trance with variation and melody without it turning into electro house.
Or use a synth other than Nexus, because Nexus is really only for Eurodance 2010 and support for other synths.

Little things, really.

I see. Well I thank you then for the tips and assistance. I really do wish to improve with producing, so all of this small stuff is helpful. Thanks. :)
