Ableton Live 9! UPDATE!

Postby the4thImpulse » 21 Oct 2012 09:17

This video was leaked yesterday showing off some of the new features in Live 9. I was uploaded to the official Ableton channel and taken down after only 20 minutes, people have now uploaded it on their own personal channels and thats where this video comes from.

I am not quiet sold on it yet after my experience with Bitwig but I do like what I see so far from the video.

YUS!
I love the changes so far, they all look very helpful (Other than the glue compression.. I don't see myself using that.) It's awesome to know they are working on it.

I really like the new EQ, the one Ableton has now is practically useless.

I certainly hope this isn't an exhaustive showcase of 9s now features, there's certainly a lot of room for improvement in the program

The video appears to be part of a whole series of videos showcasing whatever changes they have made to live.

I applied for a job recently, and if I get this job, Ableton is on my list of things to get besides my own computer and a nice set of studio monitors.

So even though I have no experience in Ableton, I can't wait for it to come out, lol.

Hey, Ableton is catching up to Logic on the mixing front. I might switch to this for my electronic music at some point, we'll see.

I've always used FL Studio (since FL 6), however, I'm starting to think it's time to move on. How is Ableton compared to FL? From what I've seen, it seems more professional.

I used FL for a couple years before moving to Ableton, I have used Ableton for 1.5 years now, both preforming and producing with it. The workflow is Ableton is much cleaner than FL, FL has all your plugin windows, sequencer, arranger, mixer all hanging everywhere with becomes a mess with full projects. Some people can deal with it, they say it is what it is and don't think about it. Ableton is one window for you mixer, sequencer, arranger, and first party plugins. 3rd party plugins pop out side of ableton and you can set them to always stay open or keep them open on a track to track basis (track meaning your bass channel, your lead synth, or entire bus track).

Abletons clip mode is very unique and is something you will either always use or never use. I love it when making quick loops while getting initial track ideas down.

After I switched to ableton I never looked back at FL, I find ableton to be way faster at the simple things and more importantly makes the advanced/complex stuff easy and possible (track routing, busses ect..). It has much more support for midi and audio recording over FL (in my experience).

Try the demo for a month, its the only way to know if it will work for you.

Thanks! Yeah I'll definitely check out the demo. I thought I'd never consider leaving FL Studio, but I've been working with it since FL 6 and I'm starting to wish it had more professional features, like grouping sliders.

I especially love the new gate. The old one is nearly useless (in my opinion). I cannot wait until this is released.

Ableton just updated their website with new Live 9 stuff!

- Improved audio effects
- Curved automation
- A couple redesigned effects
- Better midi editing and more options (as if it wasn't good enough!)
- Push; A new Ableton controller that looks sweet (has built in step sequencing)
Those are most of the highlights for me (It looks like they are still releasing more information.

-ok he's like humming or some shit idk OHMYGAWD DID HE REALLY JUST DOTHAT IAM SCreAMING

-You can record automation (LOL, FL has had that for a while)

-You can curve automation (FL has had that for a long while)

-Cool beat boxing bro, wanna medal or somethin- OHMYGODHE DID IT AGAIN I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS SHIT HOLY JESUS SCREAMING NOW

-oklol new reverbs and stuff ok, nothin special OH WAIT IS THAT AN INVERT BUTTON? MUCHO GUSTO.

-OH WOW HE DID THE THING AGAIN WOW

>every pad is in key/tonic mode

so much for that lol

- yeah, If I had this Push thing, I wouldn't even make music. I'd just fuck around on it all day, quietly giggling to myself. That looks like too much fun. SO MANY COLORS

I have exactly the amount to buy the Suite edition and Push (The life of a Russian gangster is hard but fulfilling).
Guess what I'm spending that cash on?

Maybe this, I'll wait for reviews. But definitely taking a look at Push. That looks so goddamn amazing, I could scream.

I am not quite sold on live yet, the updates are good but they are late to the game and I think there's a lot more they could've added for the price. As for Push, the thing is beautiful, no doubt about it, but I finally got my APC40 where I want it for live performance so Push (and its outrageous but understandable price tag) will have to wait.

Ho dayym, I didn't even look at the price for Push, I just assumed it was gonna be about $200 more than a launchpad, but now looking at it, Idk if I'm willing to throw down that hunky chunk 'o' change for something I might just use and then forget about. I mean, it looks rather cool and all, but Idk. I might just stick with FL. Seeing as I already have the two big updates already(automation), and that humming my midi will amuse me only so much.

uhh, ableton had recording automation for a while. what's new, is recording automation in session view, instead of only modulation (Automation is absolute, modulation relative)

I know. I was going to spend my money on a hardware synth, but now it seems like Ableton will eat it all up. And i told myself I won't pirate Live 9

Personally I would get a hradware synth over Live 9, It has a few great features but that's just it, a few. I find it kind of underwhelming for such a pricy update. I am going to wait on it a while until I can get a discount or I have excess money to spend.

Is Ableton superior to Reason? (don't mention VSTs. Please)
