Your Top Five Favorite Songs (In General)

Postby Aussie » 07 Oct 2011 22:41

Figured I'd make this since we have a pony version. Though if a brony song is so great you have to put it in your list, go ahead. :D

So yeah, link your top five favorite songs OF ALL TIME or just at the moment... And if you're not a lazy fuck like me, tell us why also.

OKAY I'LL START:

DED MAO FURV (he's my favorite band): HR 8938 Cephei

PHONAT: Learn To Recycle

SEBASTIAN: Love In Motion (Skrillex Remix)

MONSTAR: Steal The Rainbow (PrototypeRaptor Remix)

PORTER ROBINSON: Unison

Buh, daunting task. I guess I'll pick my favorite genres and find my favorite song in the group.

Favorite classic rock song (probably)
Eric Claption - Bell Bottom Blues

Favorite modern rock song
The Fray - Vienna

Favorite electronic song
Deadmau5 - Strobe

Favorite video game song
?? - Fall From Heaven - Opening Menu
Unfortunately I have no idea who made this song. It's a remix of a Heros of Might and Magic 4 song, and that's all I know. Beautiful female vocals though.

Favorite TV show/movie song
Yoko Kanno - Space Lion

Ok, this is going to be a bit of challenge, but i'll see what I can do.

Genre 1: Tech Metal
Artist: Meshuggah
Song: Catch 33

My favourite part is at the 21:05 mark.

Genre 2: Hardcore
Artist: Haste The Day
Song: Stitches

Genre 3: Straight up Metal
Artist: Roadrunner united
Song: The Dagger

My favourite solo in the world is at roughly 2:30

Genre 4: Dubstep

Listen to the whole thing. It's actually quite educational.

Genre 5: Ragtime

Song: The Entertainer

This is what made me start learning the piano.

Super Cheat Genre 6: Jazz
Artist: Cherry Poppin' Daddies
Song: Zoot Suit Riot

Sorry about the extra song, but I listen to alot of stuff, and it's hard to cut stuff out.

Yes to Meshuggah!!!

As for me, I have weird tastes in music and a LOT of favourites, so instead, here's my absolute favourite piece and a few other pieces from my list!

1) Chaya Czernowin - "Dam Sheon Hachol"
My favourite piece of music ever! Such a powerful piece!

And the others, in no particular order! :P

Stravinsky - "The Rite of Spring" The most amazing piece of classical you'll hear (that isn't modern!)

The Red Chord - "Like a Train Through a Pigeon" METAL!!! I love The Red Chord, they seem to have this schizophrenic sound of catchy riffs!

A Life Once Lost - "Joan Said Please" Can't understand a word the vocalist is saying (which says something, considering I can understand screamo lyrics quite well!) Love the instrument parts in this though!

Robin Beanland - "Windy" (From Conker's Bad Fur Day/Live and Reloaded) If I ever do some kind of funky thing, I want it to be like this...so good!
Tubeyou
You are the hero My Little Remix deserves, not the one it needs.
So we’ll hunt you. Because you can take it. Because you’re not our hero.
You’re a silent guardian of music, a watchful protector of songs.
A doctor of dissonance.

OH DAMN, i'll see if i can condense it into five. 1 song 1 artist rule here.

5. Springtime For Hitler-Mel Brooks

I had never liked Mel Brooks, Spaceballs was an ass movie to me, History of the world is stupid as well. THE PRODUCERS however, I loved. When this song came on, I was in hysterics, i'm laughing remembering how much I was laughing. I LOVE controversy. (South Park is my 2nd favorite show 1st is ponies) And this about took the cake for me. Its just hilarious.

4.Time-Hans Zimmer

When I saw this movie in imax, I came buckets. It was the greatest movie experience I have ever had. Horns aside, this is the most emotional part of the movie and the music fits perfectly.

3.Le Festin d'Esope-Alkan

Favorite Composer, Favorite Pianst.

2.Shellshocked (Remix)-Chronic Future With Back Ted N-Ted

THIS IS THAT ONE BAND THAT NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF. SERIOUSLY. AND I LOVE EVERYTHING THE MADE AFTER 2003. This is a remix of one of they're best songs by another favorite artist of mine Back Ted N-Ted. It has perfect lyrics, and perfect music, its a flawless song.

1.Musique Pour La Tristesse de Xion- Yoko Shimomura.

Kingdom Hearts is my most favorite video game series of all time. This is the most emotional song in the world for me. (For various assorted and personal reasons.) It's everything I love in a song, sadness and a constant build up until the song explodes in a massive climax, which is still sad.
Long time pianist and mediocrity extraordinaire.

2: Punisher by Mayhem (Renard). I have to take a bath each time i listen to it though.

3: Sea Tides by Andy Blueman

4: Some chords by Deadmau5

5: United we stand, divided we fall by Two Steps From Hell (So epic)

Not necessarily my 5 most favourite, but 5 of my favourite songs =)

1. to Luv me I *** for u. - t+pazolite -- Most beautiful speedcore I have ever heard. It's amazing in every way.

2. Black Soup - Mute. -- This isn't the whole thing, but only two minutes are missing. Beautiful 17 minute industrial hardcore track. It's fucking amazing. Like...holy shit. Mute. is my hero.

3. Cassandra Gemini - The Mars Volta -- Wow, a non-electronic song on this list? You'd better believe it. This song is amazing. Also, due to it being over 32 minutes long, nopony on youtube has a decent enough upload for me to want to link it. Whoops.

4. Me & Me - Rising Sun Nova vs. DJ Technorch -- Pretty recent, but it's a wonderful 14 minute track spanning a lot of different styles of electronic music. It's like a symphony of hard dance and rave and hardcore and schranz and shit. It's amazing. Too bad it's also not on youtube.

5. G-LOOP - Softlab. -- This song. All of it. It might not be as cohesive and stuff as the other ones but I love every second of it. Of course it's not on youtube.

That soundtrack download link is dead unfortunately. But I believe you. There are a few other tracks by Rich Douglas used in the mod. There's a detailed, but incomplete, list located on the mod's forum. The "Opening Menu" has no artist attributed to it.

I guess the modders used his stuff without contacting him about it...? Kind of a shame.

These may not be my current most listened to songs (like anyone, those are always changing), but these are songs where I have, at some point in my life, thought to myself: yeah this is truly something amazing - would listen again.

5) D-Notive - Pony Fantasy

4) Alexander Brandon - Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Castle Theme

3) The Mars Volta - Goliath

2) The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini

1) The Mars Volta - Tetragrammaton Part 1 Part 2.

Wow, none of my top favourite songs are like anything I've actually made. I wish I could make progressive rock all by myself. I would have endless fun doing that. Also yay 32 minute song I'm such a hipster.
Something, something, ponies.
Something, something, friendship.

My Top 5 Favorite OF ALL TIME;

1.) Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston
I've been singing this in karaoke since I was three and it will always be my karaoke theme. It always has been my warm-up songs on every vocal lesson. I hear this every time I feel down. This song drives me to tears every time I hear it. Of course, it's the cornsarnit Whitney Houston. How wouldn't she drive you to tears with that powerful vocal and that awesome empowering lyrics?

2.) CHRONO CROSS ~ Scars of Time - Yasunori Mitsuda
Yasunori Mitsuda is my hero. Nuff said.

3.) Toss the Feathers - The Corrs
Probably the first song that draws me to Celtic and Irish music specifically.

4.) Tennessee - Hans Zimmer
One of my all time favorite Hans Zimmer work. This is so hhhnnnggghhh---

5.) Can't pick between:
If I Never Knew You - Jon Secada and Shanice and,
At the Beginning - Richard Marx and Donna Lewis
Those hnggghhh animated feature soundtracks that I love until today.

There goes my embarrassing list compare to you boys...

Hellz yeah, to Roadrunner United All Star Sessions album! Totally beast album! And I third the yes to Meshuggah!

blink-182 - Kaleidoscope

because I love blink!

Underoath - Emergency Broadcast: The End Is Near

I was falling, falling, and falling into deep abyss while listening to this while falling asleep. Gets me so pumped! It's not a very hard song on guitar, too. Genius idea to have 2 drummers panned left and right playing the same thing, but sometimes switchin' it up.

Angels and Airwaves - Breathe

This song moves me even though the lyrics are corny as hell. I am truly inspired by this band.

Parkway Drive - Dead Man's Chest

This still is the song with my favorite breakdown. Fills me with suspense and goosebumps every time! The only breakdown that comes close is the one in the song "dead weight" by Parkway Drive, imo.

Killswitch Engage - Irreversal (1999 Remastered)

The bridge change-up is so beautiful.

Why only five?! It's so hard to choose! Sky Sailing - Captains of the Sky could maybe replace the AVA song, but nah.

Very interesting thread here!

Re: Your Top Five Favorite Songs (In General)

Postby Senator Myth » 01 Jan 2012 00:16

I've thought for MONTHS about this so I hope at least someone appreciates this list and its rambling reasons.

No order. These songs are all basically tied at number 1.

Rocket Surgeon by Masafumi Takada
This song is incredible. I once listened to it on repeat for about 48 hours straight. The simple synth riff and the way it's lost in all that chaos, the epic drums, the defiance of genre... This song is incredible. It suits the section of the game so well. A dramatic final battle... yet even without context, it's still emotionally powerful. The way that synth is so simply beautiful but sounds like it's getting constantly beat down just brings tears to my eyes.

Safe by Chris Squire
As I explained in another thread, I was first really turned off by this song, but now I adore it. I listen to it whenever I'm feeling lost or afraid or alone. The most interesting thing about it is that it's not a love song or a religious song, and the lyrics in the first two lines decry both of those immediately. It's overwhelmingly beautiful, the complexity of those chords and power of those rhythms... Meditate on this song and come to enjoy it. It's so much more than it initially appears, and it's such a comfort to me in my times of need.

Staff Credits Theme by probably a lot of people including Toru Minegishi and Koji Kondo
The Wind Waker is my favorite video game, and I was perfectly content to watch those bubbles rise through the entire credits sequence even though they were the only accompaniment to this song. God fucking damn this is a good one, ladies and gents. It has at least five different themes from the game and the series in general tucked away in there, all combined into a not just a coherent musical piece, but a very beautiful one. I love love LOVE this song, and it brings tears to my eyes and nostalgia to my heart. Because of the beautiful themes in there, it brings up the spirit of the game perfectly even years after my first play-through. I absolutely adore this song.

The Great Gate of Kiev by Modest Mussorgsky
When I was in the sixth grade, my school took us to a performance of this entire piece. I remember how wonderful it all was, but I was expecially enchanted by this one, the finale. I can still see the conductor sillhouetted against the symphony... It's such a beautiful, bombastic, and epic song. There's nothing particularly complex about it. It just sounds absolutely fantastic. Listening to this was really my first desire to look into studying music. So it's entirely possible that I wouldn't be here if not for this song. It's incredible.

Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan
I have no idea what to say about this song. It uses some terribly standard chord progressions and instrumentation, it has Bob Dylan's sort of crappy voice, and it's long and somewhat repetitive... But it's my favorite song ever. Everything just sounds so wonderful. I have no idea what makes this song as great as it is. The lyrics, yes, are of legendary caliber... but everything else seems fairly standard. Somehow it all comes together into something of transcendant beauty. I sometimes feel like I'm having a religious experience when I'm listening to this song... I can't explain it. I'm going to give up on explaining it. I can't explain why, but this is probably my favorite song ever.
"Without music, life would be a mistake."
-Nietzsche
