<remix><Happy Hardcore>My Little Pony Intro

Postby MRPPony » 05 Oct 2012 13:05

Every now and then I get a remix in my mind from various tracks but most of the time I just ignore it either because I'm not at that skill level or whatever. This time, I pause on my original track I was doing to sketch this down before I end up forgetting this. You know on some classic breaks albums, tracks would have a fairly long intro that features someone talking about some serious stuff and the track slowly enters in? Yeah, I've been wanting to try this for a while but only up till now did I finally get to actually doing it. So this is still a WIP obviously, I was wondering if people could give me some feedback on how its sounding so far, what would you suggest I change, keep, etc.

Thanks and stay happy everypony =P
Oh and sorry, just had to throw in Pinkie Pie's 'famous' line you hear in almost every remix.

The intro has a great soundscape that reminds me a bit of late 90s hardcore, this is great because you put it next to modern sounds when you bring in the drums. Maybe put a soft slow motion break to accompany the building stabs.

When the theme comes in, the melody sounds a bit strange when the lyrics drop out but it just takes a few listens to get used to. The vocal work is about as good as it's going to get, unless you want to push more of the theme song.

The second break has got some awesome pads and sweeping sounds and though they're really quiet I don't think you could bring them up enough without killing the vocals.

The only other thing really killing me is the bass, but I'm so used to making 'modern' hardcore that a straight up square bass is kind of mysterious to me. It fits with the cheese you have going.

Pretty cool overall. Good to see more people putting out the hardcore sound. I'll always support that.

"Reminds you a bit of late 90's hardcore?" Bro, that's the best comment anyone has ever given me lol. I know its not true, or rather its based on opinions, but I think of the 90s to early 2000s was the best music has ever been in all genres so I'm super duper happy :P

I was going to use the entire theme, but because of the BPM the vocals are either too fast or too slow, so I'm just keeping it like that and hopefully the feeling of the track should give people that 'pony' feeling.

To be honest, I struggled with the bass a bit. I wasn't sure how to go about making it so I made it the way I normally do with my hardcore songs. How and what do you use to make your bass?

Oh my god, I'm really liking those nice sweep sounds and pads in the beginning! And I think you should Isolate the leads during the vocal part a bit more and add some layering after the vocals to make that blood thumping hardcore feel. The melody is good, it's a bit UK Hardcore since it wasn't built in complete major key like the original song.
The BPM is all right, I prefer 180 - 190 bpm though.

Anyway, Good track so far, A lot better than what I can usually do :P

Usually I'll eq and layer a chunky nexus preset bass with a custom saw and either compression or sausage fattener to round it off. For oldskool style stuff I go completely custom with the basic triple oscillator. Lately I've been tightening up my bass and it does incredible things to the energy of my songs. Another thing I adopted from hardstyle is opening the attack so you get the fading in "reverse" bass. Like I said, your bass encapsulated the overall cheesiness but maybe kill some of the tops and bring up the mid with a tube distortion so you get some bass d and king matthew style aggression.
