Remixes that you enjoy more than the original

Postby Stars In Autumn » 06 Sep 2012 23:30

Wow, I'm making a topic!

Anyways, in the wake of this last remix war, I'm wondering if anyone here has any examples of songs where you like the remix more than the original song. This does not need to be restricted to songs within the fandom. My example would be Paradise Circus by Massive Attack:

It's alright, but Gui Boratto's remix is far superior in my opinion. Seriously, I don't think I've ever heard of a more sexy song. Muted guitar, tasteful piano, suave drum beats, and awesome female vocals make this my favorite trance song.

I've always loved this remix, it has always impressed me. Anyway three remixes i love more than the original coming right up.

(or y'know, pretty much any other madeon remix really, I am a huge fan)

I post this song way too much.

I actually think a better question would have to be: What are some original songs you prefer over their more popular remixes?

Ho dayamn. That is one sexy friggin' remix! For something completely different (but also better than the original), here's Burial's remix of the very same song.

Also: my favourite producer, Baths, took this cute little acoustic song he wrote in his younger years and made a ridiculously kick-ass IDM remix of it.

How much time you have? lol

Wish i was more current with current music but I can't say I'm really following all the new faces (original artists+remixers) of the last few years.

I am a Soulwax fan though

Dirtyphonic's Remix of Scary Monsters and Nice sprites was so much better than the original. It was just so dank and heavy, literally taking that song and elevating it to a ridiculous height.

Renard's mix-ins of wonderwall were better than wonderwall, and unsuprisingly, his remix of Justin Beiber was better than JB. Also his remix of Chicago lollie was better.

Justice remix of MGMT's Electric Feel.

Electronugget's remix of the Mighty Switch Force soundtrack. Perfecting perfection.

I've probably got more. They're mostly Renard.

Now this is a question I can answer.

This is one of the greatest pieces of music ever released in trance. Simon Berry was a true visionary. And he was prolific at this level. I have yet to hear a track by him that sinks down even to mediocre.

Cygnus X made a remix that was actually pretty good, and even introduced something new to the track. The breakdown is really rather boring, though.

Then Ferry Corsten decided there was too much acid in the Cygnus X mix, and not enough Roland JP-8000 detuned saw wave, and only made passing reference to the original Art of Trance classic.

Now you have this. I don't even know what to say. It's not even really a remix of Madagascar. It's a ripoff of a ripoff of a remix. Richard Durand needs to take a long look in the mirror and rethink his life.

I just enjoy that Dub/garage sound so much more than brostep.

And this, don't even bother listening to the original, it's straight-up awful.

Most people hate me for this one, but I just really dislike the original song. It's incredibly repetitive and technically and musically uninteresting, The Glitch Mob breathed new life into it though.

There's this too, it's a remix/mashup, and I like it more than all the original tracks.

Madeon's remix of Martin Solveig's The Night Out.
I don't think that I even need to include the Youtube link, it's so popular. But here they are anyway:
